This to me bares all the hallmarks of classic Chinese whispers. A story that is, in actual fact, decades old, that someone has merely tacked a modern angle onto and presented it as something new. In the early days of Radio, as an experiment, they shut down all transmissions for a short time across America and just listened to the traffic coming in. It was claimed that, a couple of messages were received that some swore came from the direction of Mars It is now thought that, if anything was received it was just *clutter* we now understand, ie Pulsar, Back Ground from the big bang etc etc.

The Mars *transmission* did become a bit of a cause celebre within the Fortean community in its' early days. However, as our knowledge about Radio signals from outer space has moved on it is, generally, accepted that, this was just misunderstanding something natural as having *intelligence*..

It very much sounds to me that, someone has heard this tale, and simply added their own twist to it. I can well imagine that a tale that was, largely forgotten, was resurrected in the 80s with, guess what... yes.... a CD now in place of the original radio signal. In that sense it follows very much the path you'd expect of an urban legend.

The video maintains that the VLA (Very Large Array) radio telescope in New Mexico had already detected the signal from Mars before Viking 1 was launched, on August 20th, 1975. Unfortunately, the VLA was not operational until February 18th. 1976. Ross
