Maybe I am paranoid, but what in the name of hinkus is this any of their business.
They told the kids this form must be in by Wednesday.

Has anyone else gotten a form like this from their children's school?
They announced over the intercom they MUST return this form!!

Several of us have wondered..Why?
I was required by law to fill out the census form. I am required by law to fill out my tax returns. Why in the name of God does my child's school need this information?

Well it's says survey. So I wouldn't do it. If the school or district wanted info they should of called you instead of handing a paper to your child. Don't worry about it. I wouldn't.

Thank you. I was hoping I wasn't just being paranoid. I needed someone else to say, hey, I wouldn't fill it out either.

If you're looking for a non-conspiratorially minded answer, public schools generally receive funding based on attendance. It's possible they may also receive funding based on these other criteria as well.

Some of the questions come as no surprise. Does the school get special funding for each student receiveing meal discounts? For each student in a special ed program? Extracurricular activities? Very plausible. As for the other questions, they mostly look like standard demographics questions.

That said, if you don't want to answer the questions, don't. But do your children a favor and talk to their teachers about it yourself rather than simply refusing to do it and putting them in the position of having to explain why.

Doesn't seem like it is any of their business, so I wouldn't worry about sending it back in. If they have a problem with it, you can kindly ask them to shove it.

Several of us have discussed it and sent a letter to the board. We just wanted to know the purpose. If it is legit, then give us a cover letter. That is all we ever ask.

A good relationship with your children teachers is always on the plus side, they are the ones taking care of them while we work or whatever.

I could not agree with you more, however, this year, we have been locked out. No communication with any teacher. At all. It is the first and only year this has ever happened. The first day of school, they met us at the door, then kicked us out. I have never met ONE of my daughters teachers. Not one.

Parent visitation, is when I am told we are allowed to meet them. That is in November.

I have no relationship with my daughter's teachers. They made it that way. Not I.

I have never seen anything like it. We are asked to make an appointment. My child does extremely well in school. We are on no public assistance. There was never even a meet and greet with these people. This is her first year in middle school. All of her elementary years we knew them all. It is beyond me.

I feel stupid saying, well, she's doing great, uh, but I need an appointment with all her teachers.

That's an absolutely reasonable course of action and if they have nothing to hide they should respond with an equally reasonable explanation.

No reason you should feel stupid: they're the ones acting bizarrely in this situation.

After reading this I was kinda shocked;

I have full and open communication with my childs teacher any time I see the need.

I would take the FORM, walk into the office and ask to speak to the Principal of the
school.

I would NOT fill out any form to help out the school if they have "cut off communication",
until I get an answer.

Good Luck

Peace

Middle School destroyed my Son's motivation for school. From happy and successful student, to inmate with dog searches, folks roaming with walkies all over, nowhere to sit to eat lunch, principal telling me all kids are liars, teacher writing down how I was sitting in the chair, plus to top it off they walked in my house when I was at work when my Son was ill! etc. Not to mention that within 6-8 days of entering this school, kids get a "Preliminary report card," basically a warning that says "you have all Ds and you are failing, you are failing." How can they fail after like, 3 assignments? Buncha garbage.
He saw poor innocent kids wetting their pants at 11 years old when the police ordered everyone out of the classroom and the dogs were searching the backpacks. For what? This town is super-low crime.
I can only call conditioning, and your account sounds really bad.
This school you are speaking of is rotten. I hope you can find another one or find some way to have your child go to a better educational facility. This whole school control thing scares me to pieces. I think your story should be publicized, and I do not see why you should let them go over the line like this. Much luck and love to you.
This last 2 years they put up 6-8 foot wrought iron fences around all of our schools. hm.

Why don't you call the school and ask them what it's about?

I just wanted to let everyone know that NO ONE filled out this form. I talked to several parents. We have parent visitation this week, so hopefully the parent/teacher relationship will develop from that.

I have been horrified by the military-like atmosphere at this school. I never received any communication from the school board and neither did anyone else. We made calls, none were returned.

We moved here from Toledo and I tell you the school lock down is worse here than there. Yet, the newspaper reports on the local farmer's markets and churches. You tell me, cause I don't have a clue.

Lotsa love for the help.
