You've got my vote, that story about the dogs leaping from the bridge was pretty interesting.

Would that really be so smart..?

Maybe connelly4245 should think the thing over a second time.

Love the stories. The ghost ship story really got me...I wonder what happened to them.. what could have provoked a death such as theirs, and the dog as well. I wonder what he was growling at.

Wow very awesome thread!
I especially liked the story about the man who disappeared mid fall to the ground. I wonder what kind of wierd mysterious thing happened there to dissappear right before two witnesses. It reminds me of the story of the guy who was walking off in the distance right in front of his yard and disappeared before his familys' eyes! He also was never seen again. Wish we had pictures of both of them and see if maybe there is someone resembling them in the past or future with their names. That would maybe tell us where they ended up!
David Lang's Story

Couldn't find the original piece...but here is the one I referred to in my post.

my favorite story is the demonic mongoose!!! too funny. i love mongoose. they are such nifty creatures, they fight snakes for a living!

to hear of a talking one? classic.

the guy jogging? they killed him then came up with this excuse. they probably ran over there, made the fake footprints even.

i love the gnome footage, cause its so funny.

great list! thanks for the link.

its quite a popular dog walking spot, not that dangerous i would think.

researched it a little after posting earlier and found something about minks and badgers. theres supposed to be a lot of them around that area under the bridge. thats why a lot of them jump off the same area and its usually the long nosed variety (better sense of smell i suppose).

still doesnt explain the suicide. find the whole thing a little odd though

ill take a drive up tomorrow afternoon, take some pics and see what the place is like and make a thread bout it tomorrow night. from the pics ive seen it does look quite spooky.

It seems a lot like this story, which I learned about when I was younger (from books about 'The Mysterious'), but that later, I learned, seemed to have been inspired by a work of fiction:

David Lang and Oliver Larch

But I do wonder, though, if there was a progenitor story that these tales spawned from.

There have actually been several cases of this nature in history, even in modern times.

One of those cases in modern times, involved a woman jogging in a track in the woods in a mountain area in Australia, wellknown for its many mysterious disappearences. Oh what was its name again... Darn, it, I do not recall it for the moment, but anyways: The woman was out running. I THINK she had a companion with her running shortly behind her. All of the sudden, she just disappeared. People was looking for her everywhere and the area where she was last seen was minutely searched through, Despite this, not one trace of her were found.

Untill several months later, when her body was re-found on the exact same spot on the same track she had disappeared. The strangest thing was that the body- despite several months having past in warm climate- looked as if she had just died and showed no signs of decomposition.

There have been other similar cases of disappearences in Australia, interestingly enough. One of them happened during the late 1800's, I believe, when a woman was sitting in her garden, near a forest, and suddenly saw a young boy coming stumbling and halfrunning, as if escaping from something, out of the opening of the woods. He seemed almost delirious and was waving his arms around him as if fighting something, while he was shouting; "Get away from me, you...Things!"

Then, as he passed behind a tree, he just disappeared and was never seen again.

The world is filled with mysteries.

Well, that sounds better that people are atleast regularly walking there. Just be watchful, and careful, as "it" whatever "it" is, appearently also just might affect people.

will do, seems to be a few theories flying around mind you. another member earlier in the thread said something bout an optical illusion from the dogs perspective. also read something a little more spooky that its a place where our world is close to the spirits world.

ill see how i get on tomorrow, ill make sure i take pics from a dogs eye level to see if the optical illusion theory stands up. ill take some videos as well.

at the moment though, im leaning towards the mink theory. read somewhere though that there are minks all over scotland, so why only this bridge?

That is super-scary...why Australia?

I remember hearing something like that on the Mysterious Universe podcast (which, though not necessarily Australian in subject matter, is Australian), but I can't remember it exactly.

I think I'm going to have to start walking around with a camera taped to my head in case people disappear before my eyes or I might see a gnome and have no way to prove it. I'll get a HD cam...lol

Cool creepy stories!

The one I can identify the most with and actually believe is the dogs leaping off the bridge. My ex girlfriend used to rent an apartment on a tenth floor in a very old building. One night, the elderly lady on the ninth committed suicide by jumping off the balcony. It was a very terrible thing. My ex's mom is a Realtor and got a super good deal on the old lady's apt, so they bought it. After a couple of days of moving in, their cat Missy went crazy and jumped off the balcony, and fell in the exact same spot the old lady had landed months earlier. Then, after a while they got another cat and named her Missy as well (it was identical to the previous one) and this one too after a few days of acting strange jumped off the balcony. Some things are just too strange to explain.

btw, here is a list of many more short mysteries stories from the same website. I hope the OP doesn't mind me adding this!

great post. Some of the claims are a little too off collar even for a UFO/Alien believer such as me. Those that caught my attention were #'s: 10, 7 & 2.

...and the costume is just a "traffic cone" on his head.

Here's a longer shot, and you can make out the orange cone when they shine the light on him briefly.

From
en.wikipedia.org...

Unsecured hazardous materials cargo Bainton and others hypothesize that the Ourang Medan might have been involved in smuggling operations of chemical substances such as a combination of potassium cyanide and nitroglycerin or even wartime stocks of nerve agents. According to these theories, sea water would have entered the ship's hold, reacting with the cargo to release toxic gases, which then caused the crew to succumb to asphyxia and/or poisoning. Later, the sea water would have reacted with the nitroglycerin, causing the reported fire and explosion.[1]

Ok so this is creepy. I did some research on this one:

The Toynbee tiles are messages of mysterious origin found embedded in asphalt in about two dozen major cities in the United States and three South American capitals. Since the 1980s, several hundred tiles have been discovered. They are generally about the size of an American license plate, but sometimes considerably larger. They contain some variation on the following inscription: TOYNBEE IDEA IN KUBRICK’S 2001 RESURRECT DEAD ON PLANET JUPITER. The majority of tiles contain text similar to that above, although a second set is often found nearby. Several of these allude to a mass conspiracy between the press (including newspaper magnate John S. Knight of Knight-Ridder), the U.S. government, the USSR (even in tiles seemingly made years after the Soviet Union’s dissolution), and Jews. The writing is of a similar style and poor quality. A tile that used to be located in Santiago de Chile mentions a street address in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: 2624 S. 7th Philadelphia, PA. The current occupants of the house know nothing about the tiles and are annoyed by people who ask.

Arnold_J._Toynbee

Stanley_Kubrick

Let's figure this one out. It has to be easy.
