Palestinian olive trees cut down in West Bank

ca.news.yahoo.com

"We found our trees sawed when we came to pick them this morning," said farmer Raja Aweis, 42. Israeli police and soldiers surveyed the damage. A military spokesman said police were investigating.

After a similar incident two weeks ago in another West Bank village, Palestinians accused Jewish settlers of being behind the vandalism.

The Palestinian olive harvest, which runs from October to November, is traditionally a time of heightened violence, as a minority of extremist Jews tries to provoke Palestinians.

Minority?! It's not a minority of the Jewish people in Israel, its a MAJORITY! And investigating?! What the hell, countless incidents, and still they are "investigating", I would like to see what happened when the smallest Palestinian causing harm, and most of the time it's selfdefense happeneds, they don't do anything, anything at all, infact, the justice looks at them as 2nd class citizens, even lower if you ask me. This country is not different than the Nazi, I don't see a difference at all actually, they don't put them in stoves, but they sure make them feel that way. This is rediculous...!

This type of hate and destruction is just so hard to appreciate. Do people know how old those heirloom trees more then likely were? Some of these trees are surely well over 100 years old, the DNA could of any one tree could span to the days of the crusaders, or longer.

Such wreckless hate is perpetrated by people who thrive on conflict. We are truely due a re-organization of social structures and values...so sad. One olive tree provides soooo much health nutrition and craft material. The fruit provides for more then 3 types of oil extraction, the oil is anti-inflammatory, for joint pain and transdermal in effect. The oil can be used to heat in a pinch or make fire in general. The leaf is highly anti-viral and may be used in flu,the common cold and other acute viral condiditons. The fruit on its own is a staple food source, used on its own as well as preserved or baked into breads etc...the wood is beautifully knotted and burled and once culling is needed, provides beautiful woods for smaller sculpture etc...

What a sad, ignorant thing to do to these fantastic centurions, not to mention the people who depend on them.

This is also a bit like biting off your nose to spite your face....what a bunch of simpletons to cut down all these trees which in fact take quite long to produce on a full scale. Much like humans, trees "grow up" and various constituents are manufactured at greater levels.

Some of the oldest olive trees are claimed to be over 2000 years old! I mean Jesus may have sat under one of these trees, some dolt decided to chop down.

Don't be a jew hater. Olive oil is very good for cooking, extra virgin oliver oil and a little shrimp taste delicious.
WHY can't these people just get along so we don't have to go through all this garbage.
I know thats just wishful thinking but DAMN. Thousands of years now, you would think they would stop within fighting but I don't think it ever will.

They did it in the Gaza Conflict too.
I was watching on press tv and they just bulldozed right through that old grove.

Trees hundreds of years old, that have fed countless human generations and provided for countless animals as well.
Just bulldozed right over without a hint of respect.

Olive Tree Cultivation & Care

The olive tree life cycle is as follows. From 0 to 7 years of age the tree is unproductive. From 7 to 30 years of age the tree grows with a constant increase in productivity. From 35 to 150 years the tree reaches maturity and full production. At 150 years the olive tree starts aging with a remarkable productivity for centuries and sometimes for thousands of years. The olive trees production is cyclical with more production in one year and significantly less in the following year. This cycle is repeated throughout the life of the tree.
