I agree that the SDR isn't as bad as I expected it to be, but it's bad enough.
There is definately a hint of sensationalism about the reporting and the government do seem to be getting a bit of a rough ride over this, (anything
that gives this sham of a goverment a hard time can't be all bad in my book!).
I am enough of a realist to accept that the nature of the threats that face us have changed dramatically over a relativley short time and that we have
to be both prepared to, and capable of, dealing with these threats.
But we must not do that at the expense of being capable of providing adequate independant conventional and nuclear defence and deterrents whilst also
meeting our other military commitments.
That there has been serial mis-management is undeniable; a balance between professional bean counters and decision makers working alongside
professional, experienced military personel needs to be found.
The UK is at the forefront of many new and developing technologies, this is despite the policies of successive governments, not because of them.
Shane that we have such limited manufacturing capability left now!
What could we achieve if we had a government which consisted of people who were prepared to put the interests of this country first rather than those
whose only concerns are personal and party advancement.
As for Thatcher, I think that discussion is best left for a more appropriate time and place and I certainly look forward to what I'm sure would be a
most passionate yet respectful debate when it does occur.
