Sweden rejects WikiLeaks editor's residency request

edition.cnn.com

WikiLeaks Editor-in-Chief Julian Assange's application for permanent residency in Sweden has been rejected, a Swedish Migration Board official told CNN Monday.

His application failed to fulfill all the requirements, Gunilla Wikstrom said. She declined to give further details, citing Swedish confidentiality laws.

He has three weeks to appeal, she said.

Interesting.

I thought the charges for his "rape" were dropped by the prosecutor a month or so ago?

I wonder who is continually attempting to make this man's life harder. I may disagree with his methods, but Assange is simply doing what the US should be doing in regards to military activity.

Which is NOT hiding all the mistakes it makes, and making itself accountable for them.

What do you think ATS?

I don't think the "rape" charges have anything to do with this decision. Leaking government documents, or creating a platform to do so, is a crime in most countries. No one is making Julian Assanges life harder, except himself. He is trying to make himself look like a web warrior, but instead creates the image of a bandit on the run.

I don't wonder who's trying to make his life harder. He messed with the US Military, the most powerful, money-infused thing ever on Earth.

All we know is that his request was denied, so until we find out more or he speaks out about it we'll remain clueless as to what the real reason is.

Sweden and Switzerland and Norway and all those countries are some of the hardest to become citizens in, you can live there, work there, bank there and all that - but its hard as to get citizenship for some reason, and has been so for a loooonnnggg time.

Very interesting. Off to Sealand with him perhaps.

Sealand

Tangentially, I think a partnership with himself (as the leader of Wikileaks) and The Pirate Bay would be an interesting combination somehow. Something just fits. Give TPB some credibility, and allow Wikileaks access to the giant invincible "network" TPB controls.

They're elitist (and rightfully so), and don't have the patience for leaches. Something the US and the UK should adopt, and quickly.

Really? He just appears to be a guy trying to get real information to the public, since the media fell asleep at the wheel.

I would actually be willing to bet that he was denied due to his inability to prove that he would be an asset to the country. Sweden, as others have mentioned, is a notoriously hard country to gain citizenship in. No undergraduate degree, no "real" job, no applicable skills.

I think the fact that a large percentage of the Western world being on the verge of labeling the man a terrorist is just the cherry on top.

He does it to himself.

He gets no sympathy from me. He openly lies to you all, and you fall for it, hook line & sinker.

Wikileaks and Assange don’t leak government documents, they publish the leaks — it’s considerably different, particularly in the eyes of the law. I’ve written here my analysis on why what Wikileaks does is legal under US law, for example.

I am admittedly not versed in Swedish law and the constitution but many European countries — especially nordic countries — have very lenient legislation and are usually very respectful of the freedom of speech and press.

You doubt that the rape charges have anything to do with it, but that’s exactly what the article seems to be saying. I don’t know the reason for sure but I doubt residency has been denied because he runs Wikileaks as you imply.

Not surprised by this. He is being targeted by smear and false accusations left and right. They probably had closed door meeting with US embassy and no go for him. Sucks that someone who does what the media is supposed to do gets screwed like this.

Really? We take in about a hundred thousand immigrants every year with a population of only 9 million(you do the math), all the while the compromised media propaganda channels keeps spewing hate on anyone questioning the obviously insane immigration policies. The newspapers run totally biased campaigns against dissenters and the politicians openly denounce swedish culture saying it is non existant and or boring..

We've got the newspapers constantly running emotionally manipulative stories; for example, Aftonbladet(the biggest newspaper) was pretty much praising a (crackpot)mother for discontinuing her relationship with her son because of his political ties. You see, he voted for the Swedish Democrats, the only party not embracing the current immigration model.. and for that he should be reprimanded according to the jantelag. Better not stick out, or you'll get dealt with.
All over Sweden brainwashed people are competing in how shocked and disgusted they are that a 'xenophobic' party got into the parliment. I don't use Facebook but I heard people all over were cancelling their friend status with dissidents because of political affiliations. Incredibly childish.

The Swedish Democrats did get in to the Parliament though, and ever since then we've had a non stop hate campaign waged against them. SD politicians getting stabbed and attacked with no sympathy from the other politicians or newspapers claiming "if you spew hate that is what you will get".

I think the swedish people hate themselves more than any other population on earth, and that makes me angry because we're a great country in many ways, but I think I have to fold.. I'm starting to hate swedes because of all the self-hate combined with the holier than thou attitude.. I guess I'll live up to that quality, but in a slightly different way.

What personality disorder are our folk soul suffering from?

Sorry for kind of straying all over the place, I get excited.

Anyway.. short answer: Assange is not from the middle east or Africa. If he was and had 6 children they would build him a house with 8 rooms costing millions in a rich neighbourhood.
