Ok thats pretty strange,When you shoot a bullet the rifleling in the barrel makes the bullet spin so i guess that its just spinning from the shot after bouncing of the ice.Hard to try myself with ,no gun and no ice!

I'm going to go ahead and call BS on this one. The bullet, I believe, would have bounced off of the ice if it didn't penetrate it. We need a physics guy in here to check this out.

Ok, these guys are pretty much the icons of everything not to do with a firearm. These morons have broken just about every rule that involves firearm safety. I would never suggest shooting at a flat surface such as ice. What was happening in the video is commonly known as ricochet. I cannot believe these guys did not get hurt in any way. Wow just wow.

Yes it is very possible. They were shooting full metal jacketed or possibly solid copper round nose 9mm rounds. What happened is the round created a pocket in the ice and the compression was launching the bullet back out the same way it went in, in the instances where they found the bullet spinning close to them. The ice they were shooting was compacted snow melted into a weaker ice not like what you would get in your freezer.

I agree, it is real.
I starred your post, you understand the physics involved here.

I had a bullet bounce straight back from an oak tree in the winter. It bounced across the crusty snow on the ground, and was spinning when it stopped about two feet away from my feet.

horrible to see how kids play around with deadly weapons....

ok lets not turn this into a gun safety bashing thread , people can do what they want to do with their own guns ,everyone in the video seem to have made it out safely ,so lets try and focus on weather or not this is real

many thanks

Agreed. Highly dangerous. These guys are careless and could've easily gotten hurt. One of my best friends is missing a face due to carelessness with a firearm. Safety first!!
As for the spinning bullet I think it's fairly self explanatory. Hot bullet, cold ice. The rifling in the barrel makes the bullet spin. As dude said above the bullet is bouncing out of the hole it makes in the ice and having lost its energy to travel a long distance, lands nearby. Ever dropped some drops of water on a hot skillet? Same principle. Spinning hot bullet lands on stationary frozen water and is repelled (bounces) off the ice (while still spinning) until it cools off. Makes sense to me.
And as for my experience with firearms and ice? I'm from Montana. Read between the lines.

Safety first!!!!

I have never seen anything like this before.

Probably because its fake.

Just think about it. This bullet is flying at 1000FPS+ and just stops on the spot and spins. It defies anything Ive ever heard of or seen. Its possible but very improbably.

And the guy handling the gun is an idiot.

That's funny. I've never heard of that happening and I've been shooting since I could walk. It seems plausible once you think about it but it sure is unbelievable while watching those .40's spin on the ground like that. I wouldn't recommend ever trying it though unless you like risking your life for cheap thrills.

ok I have to ad a couple of points.
1) the report of the firearm is minimal. that's awfully quiet for that caliber.
2) no powder burns on the tail of the bullet. the bullet has obviously been thru a barrel (at some point) but has no scoring on the tail, I'd go as far to say it's "pristine"
and
3) low velocity... those rounds weren't going anywhere near their intended speed.

powderless rounds maybe? using only the pressure from the primer to expel the round? I doubt it though, I've never seen one with enough force to push a bullet out, eject the brass completely & chamber a new round.

Im calling BS because there is no damage to the bullet.

Even if it was a FMJ round, it would still be at least slightly deformed.

The only way that this would be possible is if the casing was loaded with very little gun power that would make it about as powerful as a BB gun

how did the bullet end up where it ended up each time, seems like he was shooting in a totally different direction or point

Yes after watching the video several times I noticed the bullet would often be a few feet off from where it looked like the bullet wouldve actually impacted. Hopefully mythbusters does a segment on it as I'm very interested in the outcome.

I'll say it's BS, the first thing I looked for was the powder burns on the back end of the bullet and nada.....it shined liked oiled up bums!

And the gun safety is just totally insane!!!

You know there is going to be nice thick ice around here very soon.

I would test it if I was a complete idiot and had no regard for safety...

Now I'm curious though! ><

I guess I'll never know....

Seems legit, I'd say the ice and the angle at which the bullet came made them rebound and fall in some other place while the bullet was still spinning. Notice in the second spinning bullet how it actually starts "digging" into the ice.

If it was fake I dunno how it would be possible to make them spin that fast.

ya ,i was wondering that my self ,the impact points of the bullet looks a little off to me , but i dono it might be possible that this could happen
