they should make an A2A version of this missile unless they have cuz i didnt read the whole thing because no current fighter airplane could out run this thing and it could make sharp turns due t its turning ability.

AIM-54 Phoenix of the F-14. The worlds best (but most expensive) A2A missle. I belive its capable of hitting Mach 3

This missile was not built to take out ships. It is a target drone to test ships defence systems against fast moving missiles.

jetsetter what would stop them from putting a an explosive warhead into this if they wanted to use it nothing so you don't know if they will use it or not.

There was much smaller ramjet powered missile with same range in development.

Jetsetter is correct. The GQM-163 is a target more popularly known as SSST (Supersonic Sea-Skimming Target). It has no warhead, nor is there any room for one. Nearly the entire missile is taken up by the integral rocket ramjet propulsion system. Ramjet engines require a great deal of space, and the only remaining room is taken up by the guidance and control system. To incorporate a warhead would require a complete redesign of the missile. That isn't likely because the only purpose of SSST is to provide a target for Navy ships equipped with AEGIS radar. After any major overhaul, the AEGIS system is tested against a supersonic low-altitude target to make sure it works properly.

The Navy once tried to buy some SS-N-22's from Russia supposedly to use as high speed drones, but the deal never went through.

The Sunburn is a bad-a$$ missile.........

Well they could just make the missile longer it might make it a few miles slower but it will still be supersonic its not like you need ten years to modify it.
