well there some great replies here guy's, thanks for the info, much appreciated, I might have to look into this some more. My heart does tell me that other life exists, whether it be intelligent or not. It will be great to find out for sure though. I like this star child thing, maybe this is our chance, to say there is nothing in our records of this being on our planet, or even maybe it was, but they did a good job of hiding most of the bodies. Take care all

Love and peace

Rick

No, because we wouldn't reply with light signals. I'm not sure what type of signals we usually send into space, but I know it isn't light, so it would take even longer for them to get our reply.

The only practical signals we are currently capable of sending are radio waves or laser signals, We usually send radio signals at this present time. Both radio signals and laser signals travel at the same speed in a vaccum, the speed of light (C), so it would take 20yrs to travel 20 ly, as I stated earlier. The only slower method of communication would be probes which would currently take thousands of years to reach their destination.

We are sending signals out into deep space and have been for a long time.

Radio and television signals have been going out of our atmosphere in to deep space.

So,just imagine what "they" think if they received these signals that have been traveling through space.

Obviously, some of this planets most learned scholars.

Aye, scary to think that if anyone intellegent is within 75 ly (ish) of us, this sort of thing is their first impression of us lol.

What about all those early alien invasion movies where we always shot first, figure it out later?

And Gliese kids would have alreadt seen the way we treat UFO's here 10 years ago

One would hope that in that case, they're intelligent enough to realise that what they're watching is fiction, farce etc and not judge us on that.. Then again they might consider such things frivolous and a waste of time anyway. I often wonder how people expect extra-terrestrials to make themselves known to us when all 90% of us do is sit at our TV's watching American Idol, X factor and similar trash, and rarely if ever even look at the stars at night, let alone ponder who or what else might be out there in the Universe.

The laser-like signal detected coming from Tucanae, NOT Gliese, came from the large, bright star cluster 47 Tucanae.en.wikipedia.org... It occurs to me that if ETs wanted to communicate with television-addicted humans they might very well use that same medium. Interrupt a few of people's favorite programs with an announcement of their presence. That would get their attention! Ross
