Hi guy's and girls,

I just found this little article searching the net, Is the planet that is going around the dwarf star habitable? This will be cool if true. Any way, have a read and put your thoughts below. Take care all of you

Love and Peace

I read about this a few days ago, and whilst it is an interesting find, statements from your source.......such as....

We are not alone. The name is Gliese 581g, a planet recently declared to be not only habitable, but one hundred per cent certain to host life.

.......are naive in the extreme.

sweet mother mercy, I thought they changed their minds and decided Glisese 581 doesn't exist after all

but this article says they have two signals from there that are intelligent and they are not at all surprised *yawns* 'Oh well another day another transmission from outerspace, I just want to get home and watch House'

You gotta be f*%$in kidding me!!!!!

The planet may not even exist as they are reporting now ... but the discovery was a little while back

Well blame the Astronomer who discovered the Planet

“Personally, given the ubiquity and propensity of life to flourish wherever it can, I would say, my own personal feeling is that the chances of life on this planet are 100 percent,” said discoverer and astronomer Steven Vogt during a press briefing yesterday. “I have almost no doubt about it.”

www.universetoday.com...

That 100% is all over the reputable science sites

But there are MANY threads on this already

Just type in Gliese into ATS search...

The article is incorrect .. the light signals Dr. Ragbir detected were not from Gliese .. His detection came from the southern hemisphere constellation Tucanae which is nowhere near Gliese, he had already made a statement to that effect and said that he believed the media mixed things up..

The linked article seems to be just regurgitating old news... the latest is that they aren't sure the planet even exists..

Edit: Just as a note.. the constellation Tucanae is well over 16,000 light years from Gliese 581

LOL........So he's declared that there is a 100% chance of life.............then goes on to say that he "has almost no doubt" that there is life
No offence but he contradicted himself, "almost no doubt" is by no means 100%

Wow, that "article" definitely got some things wrong, lol. There is plenty of REAL information out there you guys can look up about this thing (especially about the "signal" if you care to learn the facts).

Heck, do a recent ATS search and you might find that the sensationalism concerning this "story" is not warranted.

LOL........So he's declared his "opinion" is that there is a 100% chance of life.............then goes on to say that he is "almost certain " of it.

No offence but he contradicted himself, "almost certain" is by no means 100%

It's also amusing to be almost certain that life exists on a planet they aren't sure is even there...

Well this just shows how information is distorted...

One news source in Australia mentions Dr Bathal's laser signal on the same page as the discovery of Gliese 581E and everyone assumes that signal is from that planet and NO one changes the error, an error made by READERS not the original article

I am glad to see that ATS Mods actually changed the title of this thread

Laser-like signal coming from Tucanae (not Gliese 581e)???
www.abovetopsecret.com...

But don't take my word for it, it's not like I actually wrote Dr Bathal and asked..
www.abovetopsecret.com...

But I bet this will continue for some time yet... I am now waiting for photos of Gliese 581 Aliens any day now

Deny Ignorance? Uh huh yeah right

I recall a while back a NASA scientist getting all excited that he had a picture of water on Mars... that turned out to be just rocks

People say UFO nuts are crazy, but now we can't even trust the scientists anymore. When Scientific American uses titles like "NASA's mission to bomb the Moon" you have to really wonder just who is the fringe group

True Dat. I guess since we know Glisese581 isn't there, there is still a scientist quoted as having said a message from intelligent life beyond the Solar System ,is no huge surprise. am I from another planet or is that not the Holy Grail of Rocket Science? Even if it turned out to be wrong ,if you were pretty sure even if only for a few days ,wouldn't you at least say 'hey if this is an extra Solar civilization that is a big deal!!! fingers crossed this could be the big one! '?

Strange how at first it was 'There is definitely life!' and now its 'There might be life, but the planet might not exist!'

I think most of us here already know that there is alien life out there. I think a lot of us also know there has probably been alien life on this very planet. But every single person here knows that if some brilliant guy found life on another planet, he would tell the world. Then, a few days later, he would tell everyone that he was wrong. The governments wouldn't allow knowledge like that to reach 'normal people'. They want secrets to keep, it makes them powerful.

Now, the latest discovery: an alien communications signal is being sent from this very same location in space. Scientists are hardly surprised...

How far is this planet and how long would it take for a signal to get here?

Cause if it was detected as of recently it must have been sent quite a long time ago.

True. If it was in another solar system it was likely sent a long time ago. But, because they were light signals, it wouldn't take such a long time.

If it was coming from Gliese (which it wasn't), which is Just over 20 ly from earth, the signal would take approx 20 years to reach us and 20 more for a reply from us to reach them. (assuming general relativity)

Would be interesting to find out exactly where in the southern Tucanae constellation this signal originated.

No, because we wouldn't reply with light signals. I'm not sure what type of signals we usually send into space, but I know it isn't light, so it would take even longer for them to get our reply.
