Byron Williams is the former bank robber who became involved in a police shootout on his way to assassinate members of the Tides foundation.According to Reason online a libertarian website Williams frequented ATS.They write a good article about how he was already a misfit.Media matters have already tried to pin this on Alex Jones ,Glenn Beck and David Horowitz who incidentally all hate each other ,and have very different veiws.Personally i think the responsibility lies at Williams feet only.Here is Alex Jones defending him self.mediamatters.org...

I find it offensive that a crime cannot be committed in this country without blame going out to everyone who isn't the perpetrator. There are thousands of people who use ATS everyday and for several years who are upstanding citizens and contributors to society.

When Media Matters and organizations like it write stories likes these it is to demonize and characterize ATS, and other media organizations as the source of these ills. Putting a political machine like George Soros' Media Matters against us, these people influence policy, and they will look here first when it comes to shutting down media they don't like.

Well this is not very good P.R., if anyone doesn't mind me saying so. Personally I am not in favor of assasins on ATS, but I don't get to pick and choose the members

At any rate, I don't think this is the kind of P.R. ATS needs or wants. Also, other dubious characters might also want to come join.

Besides, why aren't there individual responsibilities to not go kill people, and assign blame to .... us, ATS members? A website is not to be blamed for the actions and behaviors of individuals and the choices they make.

Anyone who would commit these crimes would find justification for it using any number of sources.

You ever wonder why people go from person to person looking for advice? They'll eventually hear the words they want to hear that will justify what they were going to do anyway. This is no different. We do not promote violence, or criminal activity of any kind. Do we touch on heated subjects? Definitely, that's part of what ATS is about. We encourage the discussion of many subjects, and not all in a conspiratorial fashion.

Many of our members are not conspiracy theorists at all. Look at Phage, he's this site's most notable skeptic, as just one example. We are about presenting and discussing information. What people do with that information is not up to us any more than it is up to Glenn Beck, or CNN.

Well at least we do our fringe thinking with our fringe tin foil hats and sort daily through the TRULY FRINGE main stream media's propaganda, omissions, distortions, and white house parroting. Not to mention the flat out lies.

Just another attempt by the mainstream media to discredit alternative websites and make everyone think everyone on ATS are freaks.

From the ages of 15 to 26 I worked for/with terminally ill and developmentally disabled children.
From the ages of 26 to 38 I was employed by the DOD as a firefighter in the USAF.
Now I revieve a generous monthly government pension. I wouldn't call myself a skeptic like Phage seems to be geared towards and focussed on most of the time.

At any rate, my monthly pension is my main source of income right now. I don't think I would be on this site if I thought ATS wasn't honorable and credible, nor would I be on ATS if I thought most members were shady haters. For the most part ATSers are good people, just some with bad ideas, in my professional opinion.

Glenn Beck is the taint of Fox News propaganda.

Let's not generalize ATSers because of one inane confused malformed logic carrying morally defunked moron. This person is one amongst how many people who come to ATS?

People should not be responsible for other peoples actions and behaviors.

Everyone's life is their own Auto-Biography. Sure, we can offer to help them proof read it, but ultimately they are the editor.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's like saying Lee Harvey Oswarld read the Dallas Gazette.

Then again, if only ATS had been around back then, i'm sure Mr Oswald would of been a whistleblower on this fine site, long before John F Kennedy's assassination.

Aside from Glenn Beck and Andrew Napolitano, Fox is essentially worthless to me.

We also have different opinions as members of ATS. We have democrats, republicans, constitutionalists, communists, socialists, progressives, and every thing in between. If someone of any political or ideological persuasion wanted to find a sliver of information that could help them justify their own insanity they could find it here.

They could also find that information on any news site online, a discussion board, news paper, or television program. Indeed, justification for any form of behavior could be found in nearly every source of information. I know that when I read quarterly reports from the Treasury and the Fed the justification for banging my head against the wall is there....And I think about it...alot.

But I don't like it when my head hurts.

I think this is a symptom of a New World Order in media ,one in which the establishment is slowly loosing it's grip on the thought processes of the masses, and finds it increasingly difficult to mass brainwash because of a flourishing alternative media and free access to alternative information.The Old media is dying and the establishment would like to use these incidents to brand the new media dangerous and in need of control.Remember the ADL's attempt to smear our members?Hopefully it's too late and we can fight off attempts to control the Internet and free information and ideas.

It's pretty embarrassing that ATS is being associated with those names preceding it.

I hovered around for a while just using ATS as a news feed for the more interesting goings-on in the world, I rarely strayed from the breaking news forum because aliens and ghosties and ghouls are of no interest to me and I’m sure that I’m not the only one.

I only joined in the first place so that I could contest some of the rubbish that I was reading, this kind of website will always attract people who believe some pretty strange things but you’ll find that most people believe some pretty strange things if you took the time to ask them.

When someone is crazy, they are crazy. They don't need sources, references, or an internet bulletin board to help them be crazy... they are going to do what they want to do, regardless of what anyone says to them. One thing that us ATS members should be well versed in is REASON, and this guy lacked it.

So any media coverage for ATS is good in my opinion. If the people want to blame ATS then I would put them in the same boat as this assassin..... ignorant.

By any chance, do you know who this user is? Do we know his level of contribution? do we know if he was a member for a week, or a year? Was he even a real member here?

I dislike the fact that they throw us all in the same basket. people are different, each person has their own point of view, and perspective. But what do you expect? its the MSM, they always shove that propaganda down our throats. Just because one apple on the tree is rotten, does not mean the rest are!
