Earthquake experts see the

www.latimes.com

Recent research showing that a section of the fault is long overdue for a major earthquake has some scientists saying the southern portion of the fault is capable of a magnitude 8.1 earthquake that could run 340 miles from Monterey County to the Salton Sea.
That's significantly stronger and longer than the southern San Andreas' last major rupture,in 1857.

The article goes on to say that,A magnitude 8.1 wall-to-wall quake would release twice the energy of the 1857 temblor. This is definitely not good for those who live in this area,I would think of re-locating somewhere else,if it were possible..Hopefully this will not happen any time soon..We have enough to deal with already, and this would cause a great loss of lives.

Where exactly would you relocated between 22 to 36 million people?
Yes "The Big One" is on it's way.

You know, I have been waiting for "the big one" for the same amount of time as "the rapture".

This is what I call "Scare the earthquakers news".

"Earthquakers" Well those are people who don't know much about quakes, IE they think California is going to fall into the ocean.

Anyway, yeah, they need to start putting these in the predictions/prophecies section! (Not the breaking news thread, but the after-thread (Afterthock?)) You know why? They are just as accurate as all the predictions in those hallowed halls.

Los Angeles getting destroyed by an earthquake sure would be a good start in getting rid of all the crappy celebrities we have nowadays. Maybe they're devil worshippers too just like the people in Haiti who made a pact with the devil

I am sure everyone saw the 600ft long crack rip in Michigan. Then there is the swarm of earthquakes in Arkansas. There is a prediction about the mid west and an earthquake. I will look to find the source on that.. bbl

Yeah mass devastation of humans and life is always a blessing, isn't it!

How Californian of you...

Seriously? I hope not.

Anyway, yeah, this is just hogwash. Must be a slow news day or something. (Now watch, rumble rumble...)

(IE my hogwash is hogwash, they don't know when it will hit, and neither do I. That is what makes them "fun".)

Would it be at all possible for you to wear some sort of recognizable clothing (yellow hat, blue pants, red nose, etc.) so that if an event of this magnitude unfolds we can be certain of who not to send aid or help to ?

I know I will, I wouldn't want someone with your attitude sending me anything!

So you are suggesting we all move away because an earthquake might happen. Don't forget they have been telling us it might happen since the last "big one".

I don't tuck tail and run off of rumors and hearsay. Since all of their other predictions have failed, obviously, why should this be any different?

Easy there cowboy. If you read the post I quoted you would quickly note that that individual said to "bring it on". That's pretty arrogant I would say in light of any disaster. I merely responded in kind that since he/she was confident enough to get through a potential disaster they obviously wouldn't need any help. We both know that the reality would be much much different.

Never said anyone should move. If people want to live there, and I can certainly understand why, so be it. It does bother me that some people are a bit cavalier in that respect but hey its not my problem at the end of day. I agree that this rumor has about a mouse farts chance of happening no one can certain.

I highly doubt he was talking of the hurt people, as you were. In fact he said it would be welcomed due to the increased revenue from and to construction companies.

Yours, on the other hand, was hoping that his injuries would not be treated. Do you see the difference?

Yes, and I also know that two wrongs do not make a right. Though I do not hold your "lesson" against you, especially if you felt there was no other way to explain your position. (I usually start with a question, then go to the "lesson". But to each their own!)

Apologies, I know it had been suggested earlier "relocation". I assumed that is what you were referring to, when you said the quoted poster should not get "aid".

In the end, and I share that posters feelings. When you live here, and they cram "the big one" down your throat every day, it is easy to become desensitized to it. I can not go through a day of my life without one reference to that mythical earthquake. (Until it happens, it is a myth.)

Also, folks just need to move to "solid ground" in Cali to experience "less of" an earthquake. The last ones we had, all I felt was one quick "thud" (Like my house was picked up a half an inch, then dropped.)

Live in the basin, prepare for some shakin'

...makes me think of the old sanford and son tv show, when redd would grab his heart and say, "its the big one! i'm comin' elizabeth! you hear me?" and his son would just roll his eyes and walk off - too funny...

No. All I see is assumption and that goes from my understanding as well of what the poster stated in addition to your conclusions. The comment surrounding construction and a potential job winfall or some other positive slant is tacky given there could be death in the thousands.

Sure I can understand you've heard that same song and dance over and over but at some point it will happen just maybe not in our lifetime. Besides if people didn't post these types of threads ATS would be boring

Yeah, so, when the Big One does happen, I will probably be jolted out of my bed, panic for a minute, then once the shaking stops, realize I'm prepared for this crap, grab my stuff and proceed to go through the motions of checking the gas main, accounting for people etc... The only difference between this and a Hurricane or Tornado, is that we dont know exactly when its coming, so we just take the surprise factor and move on with our lives.

If I get killed by a falling beam or whatever, it wont matter, I wont know the difference anyways.

Ah, I didn't realize only you were allowed to assume things from posts. I will remember this rule.

Really? How do you know? How do you know that it won't happen right before our sun goes supernova? Why should I live in fear over what MIGHT happen?

I would rather learn something, and be bored. Then have this "scary BS" to entertain me. That is just me though, and like I said earlier: "To each their own."

------

Anyway, I am anxious for it to happen as well. Then I can quit hearing about it. And IF it does happen, I will be as human as I can and help out those that need it. Just like I would do without all of the "cramming".

The only difference? Less "fear" being pumped into the population, but we can't have that can we?

You need to stop with that logic. It is unwelcome in the "chicken little land" Doom and gloom = Fear and insecurity.

Might be comming to visit ya next time I am in the Vegas/Cali area. I am stuck here in the midwest with "lower class" medicine.

Had to put on a new hat - TpTb were not happy with me... But that is expected
