Workers raced to build an emergency dam in western Hungary on Sunday as cracks in a reservoir widened, threatening to unleash a second torrent of toxic sludge on the village of Kolontar and nearby rivers.

About one million cubic meters of the waste material leaked out of the alumina plant reservoir into villages and waterways earlier this week, killing seven people, injuring 123 and fouling rivers including a local branch of the Danube.

I hope this situation doesn't get any worse than it already is and they manage to contain the pollution. I have read that it could take a year to clean the mess up and who knows what lasting damage will be left for generations to come.

Hungarians are good people and a disaster like this is the last thing they need.

They have had more than enough problems throughout their history, even within the last century it’s been horrible. The country lost so many of its people to neighboring countries when foreign powers moved in and tore the country apart, ripping entire families away from each other. Then they were oppressed by their Nazi friendly government then again by the Soviet Union and when they fought against the Soviets the US refused to give any support, and now by the International Globalists and Corporations. They just can't seem to catch a break, ever.

I mean what did they do so wrong to deserve this? My family immigrated to the United States just a few decades ago and the situation is the same as it ever was, oppressed, just now they can dull their senses with drugs and television and lies. Now they have this to add to it, I just don’t get what my people did so wrong to deserve this.
