It's John Lennon's birthday today and Google has him on the front page. He reported a UFO sighting in August 1974.

Being a famous person, it was only natural that he'd wander out onto the balcony of his NY apartment, butt-naked, and see a flying saucer. It was close enough that he could have 'hit it with a brick' if one was close at hand...

John referred to the sighting in the song 'Nobody Told Me'

Errol Bruce Knapp has used it as the theme tune intro for his excellent Strange Days Indeed podcast.

Uri Geller claimed to have been given an alien egg-shaped object from Lennon, but who can ever know?

Apart from an early death and Yoko, it seems that John Lennon was a lucky SOB

Thank you, I didn't know it. Now, lets see who wants to debunk John Lennon.

John Lennon's UFO

Source: Mind Set Central
Original Source

Summary: On August 23rd, 1974 John Lennon walked out on to the balcony of his New York apartment, and witnessed what he later described as a "Flying Saucer" hovering closely, just above his window. This article includes an interview with Lennon's assistant/girlfriend May Pang, who also witnessed the event, which completely describes the encounter.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"It looked like a flattened cone with a brilliant light on top." -May Pang, assistant to John Lennon, describing the object they allegedly saw from Lennon's balcony in NY City.

Not only was John Lennon the founding member of the Beatles, and one of the greatest singer/songwriters the world has known. He was also a political free thinker, who challenged the world with his anthem "Give Peace a Chance", when America was engulfed in the war in South East Asia. When Lennon attempted to emigrate to the United States in the early 70's, he was considered such a revolutionary that the United States Intelligence community put Lennon under constant surveillance. This consisted of phone tapping and constant knowledge of his whereabouts at all times. The full extent of Lennon watching the FBI, CIA and NSA got up to, is still not completely known as facts are still coming to light.

Thanks for adding the details.

The way he relates the account sounds sincere. That he later shoe-horned the incident into a song suggests it had a genuine impact.

I have not seen this connection before.....Cool!

It would have been interesting to see how Lennon would have put his views out to the world using todays social networking platforms. I think the world would be a different place.
Sorry to digress.

Happy birthday John.
We miss you.

Hey there Kandinsky,

I remember reading about this ages ago and being surprised that it never became a more widely known account ... being John Lennon and all

Thanks for bringing it to light again ... I hope the thread gets plenty of attention.

Fascinating stuff!

I think they choose to make themselves known to certain people, perhaps as a way of acknowledging or validating them as being special, important or representative of their views. I believe this to be true of a man of such peace as Lennon whose only goal was to do away with war, hatred and to unite humanity.

They chose to make themselves know to him... bottom line.

I read in one of Uri Geller's books that he actually met John Lennon and he was very eager to talk to him about certain experiences. John Lennon told Uri that he'd been lying in bed one night when a bright blue light lit up his hall. The door opened and an alien entity stood there. He was describing an alien abduction, IMO. Can't remember any more details, you'd have to read Uri's autobiography. I'm positive it was in there.

Here's a link to the story on Uri's site.

I can't help but wonder if this may have been the same night others around the city noticed the woman being abducted from her apartment and floating in the air. I know there is a thread of it around here somewhere. People saw it from the bridge etc. Now I have to go digging for that. To bad we dont know date for this one.

One of our greatest loss the night he died. I have often wondered what other songs of peace he would have written by now if he were still alive, or did he all ready write the best one ever... Imagine

Lennon talked about his ufo sighting in '74 but the Linda Cortile abduction was 1989, in Manhattan. That was a great story.

Uri Geller does not give any credit to any story, he's a fraud, a liar and a leech.

Geller attaches himself to famous peoples lives just to give himself some status.

Have you had him round for dinner? Great storyteller, but the cost of new spoons...

If John said he saw a UFO then that is good enough for me. Why would anyone of his stature have any cause to lie. It is not like he was after fame or money as he had both.

Happy Birthday John wherever you are.......

According to Uri, John said -

“She laughed it off, and then she said I must have been high. Well, I’ve been high, I mean right out of it, a lot of times, and I never saw anything on acid that was as weird as those f—-in’ bugs, man.

“I was straight that night. I wasn’t dreaming and I wasn’t tripping. There were these creatures, like people but not like people, in my apartment.”

I'd love to have a good look at that little egg Uri got from Lennon. The one he says John got from the aliens. Wonder what it's made of, where it really came from.

Here's a photo.

Me too. Lennon had a sharp sense of humour wasn't really known for suffering fools. It's possible he was hoaxing Geller's ass for kicks. On the other hand, Geller's reputation didn't come unstuck until the 80s so who knows? The "bug people" story is directly linked to Geller and doesn't appear to have been repeated anywhere else. Again, this could mean Geller is 'bending' the truth or that Lennon maybe BSed him.

There's a 300 page FBI file on Lennon out there...John Lennon FBI Files

I haven't read any of it yet, but noticed this funny quote from the files...

“Lacking Lennon’s usual standards,” his F.B.I. file reports, and “Yoko can’t even remain on key.”
Link

Sounds like the hardcore FBI agent was big fan
