English Defence League protesters attacked a Sky News satellite truck as violence broke out at a city centre demonstration.

Four members of the Sky News team were forced to lock themselves inside the vehicle as demostrators in Leicester banged their fists on the windscreen.

"It was very, very frightening," said reporter Robin Powell, who was in the truck.

Looks like a bunch of racist thugs trying to ignite fights and civil unrest. The EDL have tried to stir up hatred and division by demonstrating in the multiracial, multi-faith city, particularly targeting Muslims.

I am surprised the police didn't intervene to stop the skirmishes.

These little events are starting to become more common which can ultimately lead to major unrest in UK and Europe.

Huh are you blind?

Both the videos clearly show muslims and blacks are getting attacked by EDL racist scum.

Take your thinly veiled racism elsewhere thank you.

If people were more friendly and accommodating you would find that Muslims would integrate more.

Couldn't get to cover this protest, but know photographers that did as well as the background story behind where the violence from the EDL was going to be directed. For a number of weeks, the EDL and Casuals United have been chattering on internet forums about attacking journalists at the Leicester protest. In particular, they wanted to target 'socialist' journalists and in their world that means people connected to Indy Media, Searchlight and anyone belonging to the National Union of Journalists. The police took a unique step in Leicester by issuing a specific press card for the day. This was supposed to show the EDL that journalists wearing this card had a legitimate right to cover the protest. However, anyone has the right to photograph in a public place.

This EDL forum thread will give you some background. This all really goes back to Bradford, where the allegation is that independent media had set up EDL members to confront and attack Muslim protesters. These allegations are unfounded.
