Just like the thread title says my name is on a list that says i'm leaning towards voting for democrats this election. So my question is has anyone else been approached by "volunteers" for either party and have them claim your name appears on a list saying your leaning towards voting for their party?

the 2nd question is what is this "list" this guy was talking about?

3rd how in the hell did my real full legal name get on this list? except for the governement, my work and my family no one knows my full legal name!

Heres the story behind today.

Today had been a pretty normal day went to work came home. took the dog out for a walk after getting home from work, noticed a car driving down the street and the driver looked a bit lost. so a few minutes later i was standing in my yard waiting for the dog to do its business and this same car pulled up infront of my house, the driver rolled his window down I'm thinking he's just lost and is going to ask for directions. but instead he asks me if i'm (used my full legal name) i said yes. he proceeds to tell me his name and that he is a volunteer for the local democrat party and that my name appears on a list of people that are leaning towards voting democrat this year.

I looked at him kind of puzzled and asked him how my name got on this "list" he tells me its not really important and that he would just like to talk to me about the democrat candidates running in the election. The guy starts to get out of his car and i politely tell him that he might as well stay in his car and just head on down the road, and that i don't know how my name got on his list but i wasn't planning on voting for any democrat this election or the next election.

this gentleman got a little upset about it and asks me if i knew that the reason our country is in the mess it is in now was because of the republicans and that if i voted republican that i was part of the problem with this country.

I politely reminded the guy that the democrats was in crontrol of congress the last 2 years of Bush's presidency and they had just as much if not more blame in the current mess as the republicans and reminded him that the democrats have controlled congress and the white house for the last 2 years and have they have yet to do anything to help this country get out of this mess all they have done is make it worse.

And that the democrats have proven time and again that they really don't care what we the people think i reminded him that over 60% of americans didn't want Obamacare and yet the democrats who think they know what we the people need better than we do rammed it down our throats. we continued on for a little bit and his rebuttles to everything bad i had to say about his party was if i vote republican i was part of the problem and that i'm just a dumb tea party member etc etc. I started laughing and finally just told the guy that i think both parties are full of $%^@ and that everyone currently in washington should be thrown in jail for treason and high crimes against the people of the united states. and that it was really none of his business who i was going to vote for as i don't even know for sure who i will vote for but i know it won't be a democrat!

So i guess i have yet another question does the local democrat party in my area see the writting on the wall and know that their party is in big trouble come next month and in 2012?

Are the democrats that afraid of loosing their power this election that they would resort to the tactics this volunteer used? If they are then it makes one wonder what they might do when they do lose their majority. and loose the white house in 2012.

and yes i know this guy was a volunteer for the local democrat party because he is always on the local channels every election cycle supporting the democrat candidates.

I don't know how or why they are doing it, but I am receiving emails from them. I have never signed up to any mailing list for democrats that I am aware of. I just posted one of the emails I received from them asking for money. When Republicans win

I applaude your reaction to the guy, though. nicely done.

Just a tip. Never answer yes to someone if you don't know them and they use your full name.

It can be a process server, and they could serve you to appear in court. It can also be a creditor, which they also cannot say they were in contact with you unless you verify your identity.

yeah i get a ton of emails from the democrats in my spam hotmail spam account. Been getting them for a few years now. never open them just put them in the trash were they belong. I don't know how they got my address either as i don't sign up for anything on a political website. So either they bought my address from hotmail or got it by some other means.

i usually don't answer but it was pretty obvious who he was. he's on the local news before every election plus the fact that he was wearing buttons and stickers for all the local democrat candidates running this year.

and thats why i like living where i do. all summons to appear in court are delivered by a sherrifs deputy, and if they are in plain clothes their badge has to be in plain sight and they have to identify themselves as a dupty before asking who you are. And no use in trying to say your not you because they do ask for your ID to verify your identity for the summons.

and as for creditors i've never heard anyone around this area say that a creditor has come to their house they either call or send letters.

but that was definitely some good advice

LOL! Dam, my "answer the door naked" bit wouldn't have worked with that guy. He would just have assumed I was an extreme liberal and marked me down as a "yes" and moved on?

The name surely came from a census or a voter registration roll. The idea that you were likely to vote democrat was probably just a ruse to get the conversation started. Sounds like a good debate, I wish one would approach me. Typically if I don't want visitors, I begin to do some kind of yard or house work and I start handing them things to do. Either I get free labor, or they find ways to excuse themselves.

yeah your probably right that they got it from the county voter registration rolls. just thought it was strange when he said i was on a list and he did have a clipboard with names on it with him in the car i sure hope he scratched my name off it before he left.

I'll have to try the doing yard or house work bit sometime. I've done the answering the door naked bit. i had just gotten out of the shower and a couple Jehovah witnesses had knocked on the door. I think it was the most excitement those girls had that day
but the Jehovah witnesses don't come to my door anymore

Yep, works great on JW. However, I once made the mistake of doing it to a COP! And I wound up in jail. Not for the nakedness, but because the same cop had written me a ticket a month or two earlier when my dog got out of the front yard and went to sleep on my front porch. The A-hole knew I worked nights, he woke me up, wrote the ticket which I subsequently tore up and threw away in front of him and went back to bed. He waited until the day passed, waited for the "failure to appear" warrant went out, then came back and knocked on my door at 7 a.m. again. I answered the door naked, he snickered and told me I was under arrest, we argued a little, but eventually he let me put on some boxer shorts and took me to JAIL!!!

That really sucked. However, he eventually overstepped his bounds when he made my wife walk home for not having an insurance card, even though she had broken no traffic laws. My attorney finally got him suspended over that one, and he retired.

Anyway, long story just to agree that it works great for JW, but not so great for cops!

I am a Republican and last election (primary) i was getting 3 to 5 phone call every day from the democrats wanting my vote.
These were robocalls with a recorded massage so telling them to get @%^(^. did not work. i don't know how my name got on there list.

I even checked to make sure that my party had not been changed on my voter registration.

I am now signed up on the politicial do not call list
stoppoliticalcalls.org...

So to the democrats DON"T CALL as i hate democrat politicians and you will not like my language.

thanks for the link i'll have to put my number on the list. I don't get many political robocalls, i'm already on my states do not call list for telemarketers and such and the federal one but i like the state one it has more teeth and the state attorney general actually takes violators to court

And neither the republicans or democrats better not call me I'm an Independent and don't want to hear their dribble about the other party

Geez, that moonbat came to your house and told you you are the problem?

They are out of touch. I would sue him for harassment.

Sounds like typical left wing tactics, they know they've lost it so they are conducting unofficial polls and skewing the results for the purpose of influencing the vote.
They are trying to insult your intelligence by making you think popularity is the way to go.

Ah I see. You must live in a smaller town then.. I live in a large metro area..I don't think the local PDs here could manage to do all that.

And yeah I don't imagine they would send creditors in person, but it was general advice. I would get very defensive if they sent a creditor in person, as they are often already threatening enough on the phone.

Hello,

Your name appears on the list because people working for campaigns can get access to lists like this. I worked on a couple campaigns and was able to use a program called Votebuilder, where basically they get the names of all registered voters in the state and then you can use the names to make lists. You call the people, ask them survey questions, then enter their answers into the database and that lets them know if you are a 'leaning Democrat' or whatever. It's how all campaigns do it, you're right that it is kind of creepy. You have to be working on a campaign to use it and must buy access.

yeah thats my line of thought... the writting is on the wall and they are starting to use any tactic they can think of to try and get peoples votes.

once it got past the creepy part and i've had time to think about it it was actually quite funny I'm sure my neighbors got a laugh out of it as well.

smaller town maybe... i think theres about 40,000 people that live in this town and its the major metro area in this corner of the state. last estimate i heard was over 100,000 people live work and shop in this town on a daily basis. i think there is 3 or 4 deputies that all they do is serve summons for the county and state courts inside the county i live in. and the city cops handle the city court summons.

thanks for the info.

But heres the thing, they don't call me. and if they don't call they can't get info from me about how i'm leaning. and i don't talk politics in public, so they can't get heresay info..

I think getreadyalready is right it was just a creepy ruse to start the conversation. But it back fired on him. i honestly don't think he planned on getting schooled today. poor guy he's drank way to much of the funny lookin kool-aid

thanks everyone for your replies to this, its been an interesting day to say the least
