Well, the first thing I would think is either a sinkhole or a fault opened up. Was there an earthquake accompanying it, or did the earth just fall away?

Here's a first hand look at the scene. I subscribe to this guy's You Tube channel, and he lives nearby, so he went and filmed it. Pretty crazy stuff.

Wow, this is amazing, haven't heard a thing about it, of course the U.P. is long way from the Detroit area. It seems I have heard something similar in the past, not from an earth quake but just natural degrading of the earth.

Wow, that's really interesting. I'd love to hear what the geologists have to say about it especially since they said there wasn't an earthquake. Thanks for the additional video erumisato.

From what they said, there was an earthquake, but it was a minor one. The earth appears to have merely slipped with little resistance.

I would hate to see how much it would slip with allot of resistance!

It doesn't seem that this sort of thing is very rare.

Depends on the pressure that gets released. Sometimes with a lot of resistance, the rocks busting will be minor and the land will basically move centimeters per earthquake. But other times, it could release all its pressure at once and make a pretty big earthquake with more raw damage XD

Reminds me of an old joke -

"Large Hole Appears - Authorities Looking Into It" - sorry for the wise "Crack"

But seriously is this sort of occurance on the increase

What strikes me as odd is how the trees are leaning away from the crack.

It's almost as if there's something going on underground that's causing the ground to bulge.

How far north does the "New Madrid" fault extend? It seems to run in line with Michigan, where this anomaly appeared....

I wonder if this is going to get any worse? What do you think?

Isn't this exactly where the Madrid fault is supposed to be?

I am guessing that things are moving ahead quickly and we will see America literally split in two. I am hoping the land sinks rather than rises as I really do not want the sea level to rise! (I live on the coast).
