In documents released Wednesday, the national oil spill commission reveals that in late April or early May the White House budget office denied a request from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to make public the worst-case discharge from the blown-out well.
BP estimated the worse scenario to be a leak of 2.5 million gallons per day. The government, meanwhile, was telling the public the well was releasing 210,000 gallons per day - a figure that later grew closer to BP's figure.
The report shows "the political process was in charge and science really does not have the role that was touted," said Christopher D'Elia, dean of environmental studies at Louisiana State University.

I cannot believe that evil piece of # Obama is actually taking glory from this tragedy. Its disgusting beyond words.

Interesting that this study found the "White House" guilty of blocking initial estimates was found by a panel appointed by the White House.
scepticism rose again last month when government agencies produced a report saying about 75% of the oil had been captured, burned, dissolved or dispersed.
Bill Lehr, a senior scientist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, stood by the report yesterday.
The authority of that report was also challenged when a leading oceanographer told the commission that more than half of the oil that spilled into the Gulf was now buried along the coast or on the sea floor.
"Over 50% of the total discharge is a highly durable material that resists further dissipation," Ian MacDonald, a scientist at Florida State University told the commission.
"Much of it is now buried in marine and coastal sediments.

I'm not sure why you find that very compelling. Politically, he had little choice but to establish the commission. (*)
Moreover, in this age of toothless accountability, I'm sure there were those who thought that any message issued by the commission could be controlled or sufficiently managed.
Cheers to the honest members of the commission who upheld their fiduciary duty to the American public.

I often wonder why fervent Obama supporters can't see how indistinguishable they are from the previously fervent Bush supporters.
It is no wonder why matters in this country fail to materially improve.
