I live in Northern California, and I've been noticing a ridiculous amount of road construction going on lately, more so than I can ever remember in the past. I remember hearing a while back that CA started funding it, but I don't remember, so if anybody can link to any proof of this, that would be great. It seems like you can't turn a corner without some work going on. It makes me think of how pointless all this would be if that one far-out prediction of a massive earthquake hitting CA in 2010 were to come true.

I dont think theres any sinister reason for it. Here in England roads are constantly being dug up and having work done. Its mainly because all the utility companys (gas, water ect) operate practically independant of each other, so one month a gas company will dig up a road and do some work, the next month a water company will be there to do even more, and then they'll build a roundabout soon after! haha! It is a real problem in my area, a result of bad contracting by the local authority IMO

Most work like this is bid on and appropriated years in advance, and subsequently the "machine" of progress cannot stop the process of such plannings until the "big shake down" hits, if and/or when that should come. Then the rush is on to rebuild everything at everyone's expense; such as when a President declares a "National Disaster" and we all get to help!

It certainly can lead one to become complacent in their environment if they see the progress of growth going on around them all the time, so psychologically this road work can be considered "Therapy" for folks in places such as California.

Here's the mostly likely culprit:

Side Note: I am a NorCal native. I hear from my friends that the roads out there are getting horribad, so when you are stuck in traffic, just try to have happy thoughts about smooth roads someday.

They ever going to put in that BART/rail system up to Santa Rosa? That's long overdue.
