After currency crash, more worries for Iranian economy

www.washingtonpost.com

TEHRAN - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's government, already faced with growing opposition from competing political forces within Iran, is confronting new pressure brought on by severe economic problems, including some triggered by international sanctions.

It's not clear whether the Iranian government was caught by surprise by the impact of the U.A.E. measures or deliberately hesitated. But it waited a full week before starting to sell its petrodollars, trading them at a considerably higher rate than it would have received a week before and making a profit on the sales.

Iran is headed for more problems. The Russians wont sell them the S-300 then the Cyber attack and now this. It seems the sanctions are starting to have an affect.

Tehran didn't seem to know what to do. They balked which cost them a pretty penny.

This is going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

It's amazing how Iran is being subjected to international sanctions, was refused the sale of military technology it had struck a deal to purchase, is suffering from internal political opposition, is crumbling under an unstable economy, and is having their computer networks destroyed by a convenient cyber-attack...

...while North Korea is being subjected to limited international sanctions, is still able to transport nuclear technology to countries like Syria, still remains very much in control of it's internal political opposition, and has not been held accountable for their alleged sinking of a South Korean naval ship.

This is without mentioning that serious talks regarding their nuclear programs have been offered to and carried out with North Korea and not Iran.

Any person who was not educated on the subject would assume Iran is the one with the nuclear weapons, because that is how they have been treated by the international community.

Why is that?

Oh wait...

Iran Oil Production: 4.172 million bbl/day
North Korea Oil Production: 92.99 bbl/day

Got it. Thanks, CIA World Factbook.

Iran is only a puzzle piece to the big picture, which most people don't seem to get.

I wrote an analysis on it some time ago: Iran - The Battlefield of The Sino-American Struggle for Power

Irans (gov) position is unsuportable. No one in thier right mind would sell them military systems of any kind. Ahmadinejad is nothing more than an overgrown Yasser Arafat with pretentions of intelect. A student radical along the lines of the French Revolutionary head lopers. Other than that he may be an alright dude.

I disagree, Ahmadenijad is not afraid to tell the truth regardless of the political pressure he is under. People just label him crazy for the same reason they call 9/11 truthers crazy.

I agree Iran is just a side show. Nowhere as important as everyone would like them to be including the Iranian Governments view of itself and the gulf.

I wrote a not so biased version of events here as well.

no wonder his people love him

"With average income of $500 a month, people would find such price hikes shocking - prompting officials to brace for possible protests. "

no wonder people do protest!

i wouldnt count Ahmadinejad just yet...............after all the got that shiny new multi billion dollar reactor oops that still doesnt work

i see another revolution comming in iran and maybe those sanctions will be the horse it rides in on..............

let me make this clear : i have no problems with the average iranian citizen my problems are with Ahmadinejad and the people who follow him and his " wild and crazy ways"

Iran has survived numerous attacks from the West, the US proxy war against Iran, through Iraq was also an attack, much worse than the cyber attack, the economic attack, and the propaganda attack. That attack killed over a million people, dirty tactics, such as bio/Chem weapons were used etc.

Iran has been sanctioned by the US since they told the US to F off, still Iran has the world's 6th biggest economy, and they are doing fine, militarily and economically.

The anti-West alliance is growing by the day, they have created their own little trade network, and is growing, and will grow even faster when the US collapses and doesn't have the means to bully little nations in to submission.

This attack will fail just like many previous desperate attacks by the US
