There was a huge Egyptology fad about 100 years ago. It was so popular that the symbols made it into everything. It was a very interesting culture and still is. No big conspiracy here.

Fad? Can it really be just a fad? I guess it could but why egypt?

I still think there's a deeper reason. Many of the buildings were built between the 15th to 18th century so unless a fad lasts for that long, I dont know about it just being an oddity of the "fashion of the times".
