Something weird is happening to ATS

I'm sure all the major concerns and problems with the new design are being looked into, but I don't necessarily dislike it, the new menu is fine for example. I only have two real problems so far with the new look - 1) Mini-backgrounds no longer go all the way down, and I'm guessing they wont because of the new div based layout. 2) Change in avatar and signature requirements is annoying for everyone who has an avatar and mini-background already made for the old size, it also messes up the mini-profile of members who no longer visit.

I think the real concern lies with this new thread layout rather than anything else.

Ever since SO went to Washington D.C. this site has been changing at a very rapid pace. I've been coming here for a very long time and things have changed drastically, visually and especially content. I used to spend hours on this site reading- now I usually just pop in and leave shortly afterwards, theres just not much there anymore.

Is there an alternative to this place though? I'm going to make a concerted effort to find somewhere else, if all else fails there's always D&D. Forums there are pretty good.

Essentially I am coming here less and contributing less, it's weird that someone on a conspiracy site doesn't welcome discussion of things (anything), it's why I'm here - to learn and discuss, especially things I don't understand or have a dislike of.

I don't know if the whole quote was directed at me but the way it was posted it seems like it is, so.....

I never said you cannot discuss anything. I simply stated that you are whining about something you could fix in a instant. Find another site and go there. Simple.

And I also find it rather interesting that a lot of the people complaining have join dates within 2010 yet are claiming they're used to the old layout - perhaps old accounts who fell afoul of the rules and were banished, returning with a grudge?

I dont know, maybe I'm just super smart.. but there isnt much I cant find on this website. People always saying they did a search and found nothing... they lost their favorite thread... this website has many features, and if you spend 10 minutes trying to acknowledge them and use them, you will find everything is easy to find.

goto TOP TOPICS.. its the first one right now... if you want to find something a little older, click on 30 day, or 6 month.


edit: I lied, its not there anymore... But if you have posted in it, goto your profile page, click on posts, and then click on the post you posted in that thread...

I really don't understand the question of why it disappeared from the New Topics area, specifically Newest Flags or Active New Topics. The sub heading under both clearly states newest getting flags or replies. The thread in question is almost 24 hours old while the oldest thread on either is no older than 17 hours old. It's no longer a newest topic getting flags or a newest topic getting replies. The New Topics area is a dynamic, ever changing, real time place to see new topics. It's no longer a new thread. I fail to see what's do difficult to comprehend about this.

It's still very close to the top in Recent Posts in the Off Topic Discussions since it's a thread that's still receiving posts. I don't think there's anything weird happening with the thread in question. The whole question reeks of ignorance of how specific areas function.

I like the new layout a lot. Especially the little "to the top" button at the bottom.

The side bar is inconspicous and cleaned up the pages a bit. You can favourite a thread or a forum and just go to myATS at the top to see your favourites- any topic you've posted in is added to that page too, unless you unclick the box underneath this text field that says "Subscribe: When checked this topic will be added to your list of subscribed threads."

Although this "Zoodie" username only joined in 2009, I have had an account here since 2007 (just grew out of the name and so changed it) and the site has changed a lot over the years. Changed for the better, in my opinion. It use to be really cluttered.

i see there is a 17 hour limit. but why is it at 17... is there a good reason for that. just another thing i hate about this new layout. i mustve caught it while the topic had gone its 18th hour. still i dont like the changes and i hope everyone goes to the original topic and flags it

I like how all the forums are on one page now and you finally have one login. I guess the only thing I'm not too big on is the black highlighter when you get your mouse over the topic. It works though, I can live with it.

Aesthetically speaking, this green color scheme is hideous, and does not flow well with the blue bar at the top. The font choice (Impact? really guys?) of the thread functions (reply quote, etc etc), and the fact many of the things that should be text are images of text, really shows an grotesque lack of understanding for basic and fundamental [web] design principles.

Structurally speaking, this new version seems more efficient and better organized.

Possible lurkers. Maybe they signed up just so they could complain. But then again, nearly every seems to sign up so they can complain about something. Being vocal about conspiracies is complaining. Born complainers are we.

yeah,I just agree that alot of peoples comments fall like mine that it doesn,t feel or flow the same and I am noticing that the threads and news are not impacting as much I notice several others here are noticing that too, thanks for the reply .

Well I don’t know about you but I for one spend quite a lot of time on ATS so I have plenty of chances to get accustomed with the new changes and what not, so maybe that's why I find myself constantly disagreeing with people who don’t like them and complain about ATS suddenly being worse than it was before (not that you said directly this). So all I can say to you is give it time, once you get used to the new changes and everything it'll work just as well if not better than before. I guarantee it.
