With so many members from all over the globe I thought it would be exciting if you could all share some self-taken photos of your local wildlife and why you like the picture. A change of pace from gloom and doom is always good!

I work at a wildlife rehabilitation center during the summer and recently started casually bird watching in the past year, admiring nature is one of the best releases for me, raptors are my personal favorite.

Let's begin, I'll start!

This is a picture of a male Cooper's Hawk who's nest I was able to find a few months ago, usually they nest 30 yards higher so I was very lucky to watch the couple both male and female interact. I would get so excited every time I visited them at least once a week, my timing was lucky as I would always hear their "ki-ki-ki-ki" cry to each other and the swapping of food. Eventually their white fluff ball chicks were born and my most memorable moment was watching Mom catch some type of rodent with absolute perfection, then feeding it to her chicks. I pray they come back to their nest next year, they were the best Cooper's Hawk parents ever lol.

Let's see some of your pictures!

Rather than eat bandwidth and possibly service space here, I'll just provide a link to a few of my wildlife pics. I spent 4 years working in Africa, went on a lot of safari's and stayed at a lot of game farms, consequently I have thousands of pics but I have put a few on my site. Use the menu bar on the left of the page to go to different picture sets.

Cheers - Dave

It's very rewarding and plenty of work, here's a picture of a Barred Owl, she WAS wild at one point but is actually permanent now since she can't see out of one of her eyes and has a crooked beak. I find them to be very 'mystical' looking.

Great pictures Dave! I enjoyed the lions, that young male was gorgeous, and awesome feeding moments. I'm sure that was quite the experience being in Africa for four years!

Very cool pictures Weemad, I wish we had Eagle Owls in the states.

I am really looking forward to see the pics people hopefully post soon as well. I love the wild life and it always breaks my heart when I see how cruel and inhuman people can be towards it.

Now Im not sure if this is really considered "wild life" but I guess in its own way it is! I actually saved this preying mantis life from my cat a little while back. I wondered what he was so intent on. Anyhow, it is safe in a tree after I helped it as far as I know...

Nice photo, preying mantis(s)...how do you pluralize that!?...have always interested me in the insect kingdom. I enjoy the nature documentaries that show them up close in HD quality hunting, there pretty crazy.

lol thanks for the compliment on the photo and very good question on how does one pluralize it!!! Just a side note on the mantis.., I have always found it interesting that is one species that has come up as a alien life form on more then one occasion. Visitations from there etc. Most have been positive, the being that is, have only heard a couple bad things.

Sometimes I think the wild life is actually the peaceful life living in perfect harmony. It is the humans that might actually be "the wild life."

Here's some emu's that I photographed when I was living in Woomera

They were actually looking for food in the vacant lot behind my house. They used to come into town quite a lot, but never with babies

It make you feel funny when you walk up on a bear in the dark.

Those baby emus remind me of goslings, just bigger and more exotic looking.

That's a wise deer for steering clear of scary mother bear...

Here's a bunch a Bald Eagles roosting together-
