First I would say sorry and please forgive me....then I would ask him how the hell to I program my VCR....then he would send me to hell for still owning a VCR when everyone knows blu-ray is the bomb these days.

going through the complications of God('s) existence.

well spoken. something I do regularly.

I would have to respect others beliefs

a task in which most confuse respecting other's belief with having to abandon their own

Respect goes a long way my friend.

Yes. Yes it does. Especially when it's not being reciprocated. A task both of us have yet to master ;o)

Fantastically loaded question: "If God appeared...and sin."

If God really appeared, anyone not a idiot would say, "Guilty of transgressions as charged by you, sir." And then say, "May I ask if you are a vengeful God as in the old book or do you forgive carte blanche as in the new book? Your response to that may allow me a break in my case here.

"And if I pray a little bit to you, Lord and Master, can I be absolved and get to Heaven or not.? Does your Heaven have virgins or not? That may make a difference. Oh, wait a minute, which God are you, exactly, and what laws did you prescribe to your subjects and what changes have you made in them? May I switch to a different religion if I find a more suitable escape clause for my transgression?"

And to make it even worse we'd probably find out that the snake-handlers had the religion right all along.

I would simply say, "you are not god".

I would say I know I'm a sinner and on my own I don't have the right to stand before you today. I would thank him for dieing on the cross for my transgressions so that I could be forgiven and be in his company today as a result of accepting the gift of salvation.

Taking your question at face value and believing that it could look as if God would do that, I would immediately call foul. "God" wouldn't do that and someone is putting on a scam. Having said that I also believe it is possible for you to project who you want to see. I've heard of so many instances of people with OBEs 'meeting Jesus,' even people who are skeptical. Nonsense, I say.

I'd say that given that you (God) were supposedly in control of every circumstance leading up to my "sin," like a crooked card dealer stacking the cards against me, I really can't be held responsible for choosing to do the thing I did. You set people up to fail. You could easily just give me food, rather than make me hungry and need to steal. To keep me from cheating on my spouse, you could have easily made me bond forever to my spouse, or made me a rock or tree. To keep me from disbelieving, you could have showed up a little sooner than now, just to tell me I failed.

You made me an imperfect human being and put me in an imperfect world. How could you expect me to be perfect?

I would first suspect I was under some kind of mind control if this happened and then would ignore it. If the illusion persisted I would simply ask why he did not give humans the instincts to worship him from birth. Instead we have to learn about him through other humans who are known to lie, cheat, and steal for power and control. Then I would flip him off.

Personally, I think if God were to show up and talk to me, I don't even think that would be a question. I believe man has invented the term "sin" for his own agendas. If God was to think in those terms, which, I highly doubt, he would probably think that was a sin in itself for me to feel guilty about a path I may have taken at some point in time. Everything has its rhyme and reason, ebb and flow, all is as it should be.

I'd say that if my sins get that much attention that God Herself has to come down from heaven to talk about it, it's time to try and get my 'exotic' poetry book published!

"Really? Gee, I'm really sorry about that. Can you forgive me? After all, I'm only human. I'm not perfect. For that, I blame my creator."

I'd go Good Will Hunting style, and wait for him/her/it to talk first ;-)

It may take a while, but they'd break and say something eventually.

Afterall, anything I'd have to say would be meaningless, because for one, they're God, and two, they probably know what I'm thinking and what I would say anyway.

So.... your move, God

Actually, this happens to me almost every day. God confronts me with something I've done...it is called my conscience.
