Doesn't shock me. Generally it has been shown that the poorer the area, the more religious it is.

First question I have is: correct according to who's standards?

Second question I have is: Were the "correct answers" compliant with what answers we get when all verses of the holy books were held in context with eachother simultaneously?

thanks,
ET

Maybe the more you know about religion the more informed choice you can make. Most agnostics/atheists I know came from a religious background previous. I Come from a catholic/protestant/Anglican background and I'm atheist of sorts...

That's easy ...most Christians and Spiritual folks know a few things about their respective scripture and rest in the comfort and peace that a few lines, quotes, or chapters brings them.

While most atheists/agnostics scour the scriptures to find any little inconsistency, to be able to have rebuttals, to try and find contradictions all to build up this trying and impeccable defense against anything anyone says.

Simple as that

Here a link to the original survey:
pewforum.org...

You can visit the website and take the quiz. The survey is using multiple choice questions. There is no gray area what is correct and what is wrong. The numbers given for correct answers in the OP are no percentage-values. They show the number of correct answers to the 32 questions.

The questions are neither gotcha-questions, nor is the survey focussed on atrocities and inconcisties in religions.

many atheists were once very religious, it was the desire to become more educated that led to the discovery of bible hooey...

ive met more dim witted low iq bible thumpers than non-thumpers.. just like how a retarded person is easily fooled and pacified..

The truth is that, in the United States, as least, most people who call themselves "Christian" only do so because they think they are suppose to. They may have been to church for a wedding or funeral. Maybe they went on a holiday or something. Many don't even own a bible. Thus, it isn't suprising that they don't know much about the religion that they only profess to follow because they are told that if they aren't, then they are bad people.

People who are jewish, mormon or even evangelical, tend to know more about their religion because they actively choose to be part of that religion. Those aren't the "dominant" religion of the nation. Atheists and Agnostics know more about religion as they tend to have to defend their beliefs against attacks for those who see them as evil or "ignorant". Generally, they are neither.

They lumped agnostics and atheists together? That was a mistake. Agnostics being that they "don't know" are going to be the ones who search. I bet agnostics fair much better than atheists.

My understanding is that an agnostic is doubtful or noncommitall on religion, how is that better?

An agnostic would probably say, "I neither have a belief in a deity nor do I have a belief in the absence of such a deity." That sort of fair, balanced stance would give a good platform for learning about different religions/spirituality.

Not necessarily, some I'm sure! However, I was raised in the Christian church (Born Again, Spirit Filled, Evangelical, dah-di-dah) and I was searching for confirmation of my beliefs outside of said belief system! There is little to be had, you might want to take note at this point!!

I will deal with Christianity solely as it is the corner stone of ALL my research! The large majority of Christians do not do any research of the biblical texts on their own. Most questions are asked of affiliates of the Christian belief system. They may go so far as to ask someone who practises a different "branch" of Christianity, but to ask beyond that is heiracy and punishable by GOD!! Many branches believe that their branch is superior within the confines of the religion and going further; ALL other religions are pure bunk, no matter how far they predate Christianity! Which brings us to the origins of Christianity.

Now I may get some of my information wrong or at the least, may be over extending the "truth"! What it all boils down to is that Christianity is a collection of "moral" parables construed from varying sources, almost all of which predate Christianity! PLEASE keep in mind that I was raised in the church and I have a complete and utter unshakable belief that Jesus of Nazareth did in fact live and taught many people the "TRUTH"! What has remained of that truth?! Well, that's debatable.

As far as the "Virgin Birth", which begins the entire saga, please looks up Horus from the Egyptian mythology. Horus was born of a virgin (Isis -Meri) on 12/25, which happened in a cave/manger/secluded location and which was heralded by a star arising in the east, thus being followed by three kings (or wise men)! Then we have, at the other end of life (as well as much inbetween) Osiris and Jesus, where they were killed and then "rose again on the third day"! Jesus was betrayed by Judas and Osiris was betrayed by Seth. Then we get into the case of "miracles"! Many miracles were performed by Jesus, Horus and Osiris (not to mention others historicaly speaking). This is only the very bare bones of my research and everyone is more than welcome to ask their own questions without judgement or persecution. Isn't that what's suppossed to be so great about our country?

SIDE NOTE TO CHRISTIANS: PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS!!

I will not get any further into this as many people are already going to flame me
!! What I want to say, in all simplicity is this; what I was raised to believe simply did not "jive" with me from the earliest times I can remember of my personal childhood. I know that religion helps thousands of people, the question comes into play when asked: "How does it help"? Are you more open to others or more closed and judemental?!

anyone seen the test? LOL

What a load of stupidity....being spiritual believer in Christ there is no religion to begin with...

I got a score of 60%

2 questions were in regards to US school system
According to rulings by the U.S. Supreme Court, is a public school teacher permitted to lead a class in prayer, or not?
According to rulings by the U.S. Supreme Court, is a public school teacher permitted to read from the Bible as an example of literature, or not?

What religion do most people in Pakistan consider themselves?

In which religion are Vishnu and Shiva central figures?

What was the name of the person whose writings and actions inspired the Protestant Reformation?

What was Joseph Smith's religion?

What was Mother Teresa's religion?

just a few of the questions....LOL maybe a total of 3 God/Bible questions.
Utter stupidity only bettered by the fools in this thread!

Sorry guy but you prove the point of this thread, maybe if you bothered to educate yourself on the subject of religion you would have a different opinion. I scored 100% even though one of my answers was an educated guess. Thank you for your post.

why?

I dont care to even educate myself with worthless information...about the USA education and legal system nor a few "famous" people...please explain how even knowing this info will help feed the poor or house the homeless?

My friend you prove the point of this thread...useless, worthless trash, and tying to use it to boost you or your cause is just as useless.
Thank you for confirming this fact.
