Making a separate thread, as The Gates' season is over (and looking doubtful it will be renewed)...so wanted to break out from the combo thread.

For those who haven't seen it, this show is about an FBI agent who is sent to this small NE town to track down a fugitive. But, she finds people in Haven often have strange supernatural abilities.

I call it a "freak of the week" show, kind of like Fringe or X-Files, where each week, some new supernatural human is running about doing bad things.

It's actually pretty good though, with a running back story of the agent's mom (perhaps, or at least someone identical to the agent) was there when all of this happened before, and the agent is trying to find out more about her.

So, just wanted to continue the discussion on this thread instead (as the last was also on the Gates).

Anybody catch the "Mulder" reference on the last show (FBI agent that ran around chasing aliens)...???

We totally missed that reference, however something unique that was said in it was all too familiar, and pretty creepy.

For starters...the town I live in has "Haven" in it.
I have a son named Zander.
Zander has problems at school because he won't talk, we have to constantly tell him to "use his words"

One of the lines in the episode, the GC said "Zander, you need to start using your words". I replayed it for my wife, and she was also creeped.

Hehe....that would be a bit eerie.

The reference is when her boss tells her she's a good agent, and mentions in passing her similarity to another one of his agents, who went chasing aliens. Didn't mention Mulder by name, but it was a pretty obvious reference when you listen to it the second time.

SPOILER (if you didn't see the last show).......

Can't believe she's quitting the FBI (and seems that was her boss, and the Sheriff's plan all along)...

I like the show but am still trying to see how it fits into The Colorado Kid. On a side note:If you watch the credits, you'll see the name Charles Ardai. If you've read Cell by Stephen King, you'll know that there's a character in that book with that same name. He's a headmaster at a school.

Even more intriguing, there's a newspaper story about Reverend Flagg! (a constant recurring bad guy in Stephen's books)...

Haven has been pretty good, so far. As I had hoped, they continue to develop the "who is Audrey's mom" subplot alongside the weekly strangeness, which is helping set it apart from other, similar shows.

One funny thing that hit me a couple of weeks ago is that one of the brothers who write the local paper is Jim Lahey from Trailer Park Boys. I thought that was pretty cool.

Yep, and that's one of the earmarks of a good show...interesting characters. I'm still disappointed they killed off the coroner though...I was really liking her character....the perfect representative of what Haven was about, and a symbol for Audrey's acceptance as a "local"....

The only character I don't like is her partner. Even Al Gore would say he's a bit stiff... I think he sleep-acts....

Interesting ending to last night's episode.

Now we're wondering if Audrey isn't really Lucy, vs. her daughter. So far, I think my earlier guess is right (her ability is that she can help those who are "troubled" by providing whatever counter power they need).

For example:

The cop can't feel, but he can feel her touch.
The man (and boy) in last episode couldn't stabilize himself, unless she did.

Definitely interesting.

I'm kinda wondering how they're going to make it seem (relatively) plausible if Audrey turns out to be Lucy. Oh well, season finale this week; maybe we'll find out.
