twitter.com...

I wonder when they'll say what was in that book. Again, we just have to wait and see. And hopefully they release the information soon.

Oh I would too.

If I found a copy online, I'd read it first, instead of waiting for the information to be told to us. It would be more surprising.

Strange that it is listed as available on Amazon. What would buyers get: a censored version or nothing at all?

None are available, and haven't been as well. I checked about 2 weeks ago and it said the same.

I missed that. Thanks.

Some comments mention a new version; is that the one that is being burned or is there another one coming out that will be heavily censored?

There was a copy of this on ebay a few weeks ago.....it was originally advertised at $12 with bidding....the guy then put the initial bid upto $1500 when he realized he was one of very few to have a legit copy of this book.
I dont know if the copy sold....and for how much but there was a copy on ebay

Hi you should read this cnn article . us.cnn.com... It is a good picture of the situation as it stands ,other than wikileaks has a copy of the original,I hope, and will get it on the internet so we can get a little closer to the beast, in order to expose it.

I have heard the rumblings of Wikileaks, some people think it is legit while others think that it is highly probable that they are a CIA operation of some type...

Now I am suspicious. The Government did not go out and purchase every single book, they cut a deal with the publisher to purchase every single book before it even hit the shelves for sale to the public. So how did Wikileaks get it? The answer is obviously from the Pentagon. Now I will admit it is possible that someone kept a copy and sent it in to Wikileaks, but I would think it is not very likely. After all the trouble the Pentagon went through to make sure this book would not hit the shelves, what are the chances that they would have relaxed security around the point where they were destroying this book that would allow someone to sneak away with one single copy? Sorry I don't buy it. Wikileaks getting a copy of this book is very suspicious.

Wow

This is fantastic if true.

But you know it'll be anti climatic. Sigh

"So how did Wikileaks get it?" I had read in a diffrent thread that there would have been 50 or copys sent for review prior to the publishers production, so it may not have been the edited virsion ...peace

The book was reviewed by media and former government officials. I assume Wikileaks was able to get one of those copies.

Here is a link to the original ebay listing: cgi.ebay.com...

Apparently, it must not have sold or the buyer didn't come through because it was relisted. However the link to the relisted item points to a listing that "has been removed" or "is not available".

Maybe Wikileaks contacted the seller?

This would be an interesting read... I loved what one reviewer on Amazon said about this book.

In closing:

The fact that the we all have been denied access to this literature is a violation of our rights, and I don't think that I should have to shell out $1,000+ in a 10 day bidding war on a well known auction site just to read this book in its original form. How long before our leaders deny us access to websites critical of this country and it's foreign policy?

Mass surveillance, control over the economy, propaganda disseminated through government controlled mass media--this is not where America is headed, this is where America is NOW. Totalitarianism at its finest. You may think you're free, but the only thing you're free to do is work, consume, and die.

If I were the author and the government started trying to sensor my book I might very well send them a copy before I am told to delete it. It would be a way to make sure the information got into the public domain. A deal could have been worked out prior to make sure wikileaks did not disclose the information until they had bought all the copies effectively blocking it from getting into the public domain.

the author could have sent Wiki leaks a copy of his original manuscript.
Someone at the publisher could have grabbed a copy of the book before it was boxed for shipment.
Someone at the pentagon could have grabbed a copy from a box before it was burned.
Then again this copy could be absolute bunk who knows

The censored version is available.

Amazon.

Based on Department of Defense security concerns, sections of Operation Dark Heart have been redacted in the published edition. The newly revised book keeps our national interests secure, but this highly qualified warrior's story is still intact. Shaffer's assessment of successes and failures in Afghanistan remains dramatic, shocking, and crucial reading for anyone concerned about the outcome of the war.

Yes the copy would be revised. It says so on the Amazon link you posted. Whatever the Pentagon didn't like, they made the author take out. So much for Freedom of Speech aka Freedom (as long as it doesn't alter other's views on America)

"Important Message for Customers
On Friday, August 13, 2010, just as St. Martin’s Press was readying its initial shipment of Operation Dark Heart, the Department of Defense expressed concern that its publication could cause damage to U.S. national security. The publication of the initial edition was canceled. However, after consulting with the author, Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer, St. Martin's Press agreed to incorporate some of the government’s changes, which includes redacting classified text, into a revised edition."
