Hi,

Firstly, I am not an American so US posters please have patience.
Secondly, I love music and this includes the SF sounds of the late 60's and early 70''s.
Thirdly - in between reading many (flaming) threads on ATS last night I went onto You Tube and found the following - always one on my favourites... Sopme younger members may know 'Born to be Wild' but this is almost an historic summation of where we (still) are...'

I've included the lyrics as this is a (not so very good) live version but it sums up much of what I read on ATS to-day....and the refrain...?

Monster lyrics © Duchess Music Corporation; Black Leather Music, Inc.; Jerry Edmonton

Lyrics to Monster :

Once the religious, the hunted and weary
Chasing the promise of freedom and hope
Came to this country to build a new vision
Far from the reaches of Kingdom and pope
Like good Christians some would burn the witches
Later some got slaves to gather riches

But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands, to court the wild
But she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light

And once the ties with the crown had been broken
Westward in saddle and wagon it went
And till the railroad linked ocean to ocean
Many the lives which had come to an end

While we bullied, stole and bought a homeland
We began the slaughter of the red man

But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands to court the wild

But she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light

The Blue and Grey they stomped it
They kicked it just like a dog

And when the war was over
They stuffed it just like a hog

And though the past has its share of injustice
Kind was the spirit in many a way
But its protectors and friends have been sleeping
Now it's a monster and will not obey

The spirit was freedom and justice
And its keepers seemed generous and kind
Its leaders were supposed to serve the country
But now they won't pay it no mind

Cause the people grew fat and got lazy
Now their vote is a meaningless joke
They babble about law and order
But it's all just an echo of what they've been told

Yeah, there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into the noose
And it just sits there watchin'

The cities have turned into jungles
And corruption is stranglin' the land
The police force is watching the people
And the people just can't understand

We don't know how to mind our own business
'Cause the whole world's got to be just like us
Now we are fighting a war over there
No matter who's the winner we can't pay the cost

'Cause there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into the noose
And it just sits there watchin'

America, where are you now
Don't you care about your sons and daughters
Don't you know we need you now
We can't fight alone against the monster

America, where are you now
Don't you care about your sons and daughters
Don't you know we need you now
We can't fight alone against the monster

BTW ignore first 1 minute - no idea what the hell this is about...also there are a couple of verses missing from the video...

So - as the title says - no change, no change. But more importantly for younger posters, there should be no fear. This will always go on but individually each must be true to themselves.

Peace!

Funny I heard Monster one morning and thought yep this song could have been written today, I often use this song as a reference when discussing the issue of change. There is a lot of music from that era that talks about oppression, corruption, racism, greed, politics etc etc, Marvin Gay's "What's Going On" album is still a very haunting reflection of the world decades after it's release

Crosby Stills Nash and Young's "Ohio" after all these years the vibe of the song is still chilling "Tin soldiers and Nixon coming, We're finally on our own. This summer I hear the drumming Four dead in Ohio." The theory was stand up to Nixon and get shot

CSN&Y Ohio breakdown

Too bad you won't hear this kind of expression in today's music it's been squashed in my opinion.

Mankind has been going own the toilet for centuries they just keep adjusting the history books, as they say "there is nothing new under the Sun".

Great post!

Hi'

You are right - we won't hear this music to-day - hence the thread!

But then there was always 'us' and 'them' - I guess we had to express ourselves more overtly (via music, art...) instead of the internet.

Peace!
