Human-Powered Ornithopter

Todd Reichert, an Engineering PhD candidate at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies (UTIAS), flew the wing-flapping device and sustained both altitude and airspeed for 19.3 seconds, covering a distance of 145 metres at an average speed of 25.6 kilometres per hour.

You have to wonder what made them choose the Ornithopter over a more efficient prop and fixed wing.
Had to be for the challenge itself.
Pretty smooth and birdlike flapping.
Looked surprisingly smooth for the pilot.

Wow that was absolutely fascinating to watch. Its going to be interesting if this concept evolves into something revolutionary. The fact that its total weight is under 100lbs. is what gets me. Incredible, simply incredible.
