Three quarters of a million folks?

That's a lot of people packed in a very small percentage.

I think the numbers are bogus, but it's definitely a start in the right direction.

Just hope this doesn't start a whole new level of pro or anti homsexuality in the UK.

As to why I think the numbers are bogus? I think that there are still far too many people that are afraid, for whatever reasons, to answer the census acurately. I think this, because I would have thought the number to be far higher as well, maybe around 3-5% ish.

It has the potential to be good, though, as this can show the homosexual community that it is fine to be open about it. At least I hope it goes this way.

I know exactly what you mean.

When I had my pubs if any couples started getting 'overly familiar' with each other they were given the one warning, especially those I knew well!

Very much no nonsense type boozers they were.

Still, I fear I've digressed enough.

How is it a completely different topic? Homosexual couples face predegious, when it comes to adopting children. And anyways polls nowadays are misleading, how many people did they question, 1 thousand? 10 thousand? I have seen polls before where only up to 2 thousand people have been asked questions.

The poll, does not give you the accurate numbers of Lesbian, Homosexuals or Bisexuals in the UK as a whole.

Have you read the article? If you have then you would know, silly boi.

And besides, I have seen that many polls produced, trying to convay a false message. When only say a
thousand or 2 thousand people has actually been polled, misleading or what.

So I will take this poll with apinch of salt.

Haha, only joking with you Laura.

I'm pretty sure there are more gays/lesbians/bisexuals than the posted article suggests, either way I'm not too bothered.

What happens behind closed doors is nothing to do with me, I'm not keen on homosexuality as I don't think it's natural or normal but like I said; what someone else does in their private time is their business as long as it's not being thrust into my face then I'm happy.

Well sometimes that does not happen. And in a supposingly tolerent country, why should homosexual couples keep things behind closed doors. I am not attacking your comment or anything. But do you see how funny Tolerance is?

The UK is far from a Tolerant Society that is for sure. Seems the country is going backwards instead of forward for some reason.

I'm guessing like others said, this 1.5% is the lowest possible number. I'm sure many are gay/bi but just said they're straight because of whatever internal issues they're dealing with.

The UK is not tolerant that's for sure, but tolerance works on many levels.

I'm not allowed to put a Union Jack flag outside my flat when England are playing in the world cup because it may offend other religions/minorities.

I don't accept homosexuality for various reasons but you need to have a degree of acceptability; I might enjoy my girlfriend doing certain things to me involving rubber but I wouldn't do them in public...

I think a persons sexuality is their own choice/born with but when it goes against the norm, in my opinion it shouldn't be displayed in public as it's only going to cause offence.

And there I thought the laws had changed on flying Flags outside your home too. We certainly do have a long way to go before that is sorted. Where I live, I can fly A union jack or a saltaire, and I do not give two monkeys weiter it offends people, I fly them to support our troops. They do not like it tough. Mind you I have never had any complaints so it cannot be bothering anyone. I do agree how ever it is pretty disgusting no being allowed to fly a flag. 10 Downing Street does it so why can't you.

And One does think there was a little TMI, you posted there on what you and your girlfirend get up to in the Bedroom
As for acting or going about dressed like that in public, have you seen what other people wear nowadays lol

Any thoughts on the religious aspect folks?

Especially with the popes recent visit, and his obvious stance that gay people belong in hell....

Would that not be a different topic of discussion?

The pope has his right to his Opinions, as any one else has. He might believe that homosexuality is a sin, where as I might not think homosexuality is. It is about making ones mind up. Who cares what he thinks anyways. He is in trouble anyways, with all that money laundering his bankers have been doing. So he should be silenced for a while.

With regards to the GF, I only wish she had such an open but no luck for me

Well, considering the proliferation of religious views on ATS, especially fundamentalist views - it could be argued that news about 1.5% of people in the UK being Devil-Spawn would be of interest to our religious compatriots.

Is it right to allow someone to be 'hate-speeched' by a large organisation just because it's in the name of religion? Especialy as their sexuality is beyond their control....

Well it could be worse, we could have Shiara Law, is that not more stricter than the Catholic Doctorines? Homosexuals would be persecuted, you just have to look at Iran for example to see this happens in that country.

Yes, I couldn't agree more - Sharia Law would be terrible.

But we're not exactly in a happy place having Christianity permanently harassing and demonising (literally) homosexuality are we?

Wouldn't it be better if religion was quiet on this issue?

This thread for example, is a great example of what I'm talking about....

Thinly veiled bigot-fest this is.

But we can tolerate it. If we were under shiara law we would have no choice, or a chance to reject it. It certainly would be slippery slope to go down that road. My opinion religious views should be kept within thier churches, chapels, synagouges, and mosques etc, Leave the rest of us alone to get on with our lifes.

Yes have visited that thread, read a couple of pages off the comments posted, and left in disgust. But what can you do? Other members are entitled to thier opinions as much as anyone else. You and I might not agree with thier opinions or comments. But that is life. Besides, didn't the Moderators get invovled with that thread? To remove any offensive or derogatory remarks? If not I am quite suprised to say the least.
