Interesting how the Netherlands ranks so high. I recall many right wing politicains and commentators talking about how everyone there is a lunatic taking drugs. People there seem to be political active; that is why they have so many freedoms.

Hmmm, Crowded House were pretty good. Then there's Dame Edna. Steve Irwin was a bit of a dick, but his heart was in the right place. Did you ever see any of Paul Hogan's comedy before he became a complete dick? Used to make me laugh anyway... hmmm, just where was he when he did become a dick? Oh yeah, twas the USA wasn't it?

And I know a joke when I see one.
Please. The only good thing to come out of Australia is those Thunder from Down Under guys.
Sadly, "economic dynamism" seems to be a euphamism for plenty of people regularly going out of business & being forced to borrow more money to get something else going...

I'd have to disagree. I go there sometimes for work &, whilst it seems cool enough for well off people who dont mind some of the most restrictive laws governing ordinary behaviour that I've ever come across, for the poor &/or unconventional, it seems pretty rough.

Nope. Australia has operated an openly racist immigration policy until the latter part of the 20th century.
Dubbed the "White Australia" policy, the Immigration Restriction Act was the first piece of legislation of any significance submitted to Australia's first Parliament in 1901.
The policy was dismantled in stages by successive governments after the conclusion of World War II, with the encouragement of first non-British and later non-white immigration. From 1973 on, the White Australia policy was for all practical purposes defunct, and in 1975 the Australian government passed the Racial Discrimination Act, which made racially-based selection criteria illegal.
