Man Jailed for Microwaving a Hamster

news.sky.com

Anthony Parker, 29, from Hartlepool, Teeside, admitted to microwaving his "favourite" hamster, when police turned up at his home on Holyrood Way in the early hours of February 23.
The unemployed construction worker said he put the hamster in the cooker after a drunken row with his girlfriend.
He told police: "I didn't mean to kill her. She was the best hamster I ever had. She was called Suzie."
Neil Taylor, prosecuting, said: "It was clear the hamster died in agony."
Parker had been drinking all day when his girlfriend came home and they rowed.

OK, So here is another one to add to the pile of blatant animal cruelty. This man seems to think that his hamster could have survived this microwave cycle. As he tells the police its the best hamster he's ever had.

I seriously do not know why the MSM is covering all these cases.. I'm sure there hasn't just been an uprising against pets. Just the fact of the MSM is now choosing to cover more of these stories.

What the....

Complete and utter moron regardless of wether he was drunk or not. Animal abusers should be dealt harsher penalties. Its sickening to see how people treat animals sometimes

This is terrible news to read. I can't believe a person would do this to a innocent creature. If only I could get my hands on this drunken slob. Soon! Soon I say!

Nice try

I see what you are trying to do there. Lets not turn this into another cop-bashing thread

Might have been the girlfriend whom telephoned the police. Lets not turn this into a police bashing thread. The guy should get longer, absolutely disgusting. Just shows how low Humans will go nowadays.

Lobster Thermidor anyone

Absolutely.

Yet another thread where people are wringing their hands with righteous indignation at an example of animal cruelty, while ignoring other instances that happen on a daily basis.

I'm with ken10 on this one. How is this any different than when people cook lobsters? Is it because lobsters are ugly and hamsters cute?

Heckfire, the lobsters suffer longer than the hamster did.

Not that I condone what the guy did mind you, but it makes little sense to get up in arms about one incident, when another, crueler incident happens every day for people's eating enjoyment.

Am I the only one who thinks there is a difference between boiling a lobster and microwaving a hamster?

A lobster has never been proven to feel pain, while on the other hand, hamsters are mammals like us - and therefor, experience pain the same as we do.

Big difference between mammals and shellfish.

In a weird way, it's good we're hearing more of these stories. Even as recently as the 1990s, people didn't care enough about animal cruelty for it to hit the headlines. I'm glad people care now.

It's the intent.

I'm ok with killing animals (and lobstahs) for food.

I am NOT ok with killing pets as revenge for an argument with another person.

THAT'S a cruelty line that should not be crossed.

I hope he rots in jail.

Alright, so I stand corrected.

Thank you.

Still I think a mammals' experience is much different than a shellfish. But I don't eat either, thankfully.

I dont agree with the live boiling of lobsters either. In fact, I dont even eat at restaurants that partake in that activity.

If they freeze them to death, which is painless, then I have no problem with that. Its been proven that lobsters and other crustaceans do feel pain

Yup, I have to agree with OzWeatherman and WhiteMagicWoman.

It's about intent and purpose.

While I personally wouldn't eat a live boiled lobster (as I don't agree with the cooking method) I can *understand* that people do it for eating. It wasn't done to inflict pain on the animal intentionally or for personal enjoyment.

Whereas putting a hamster in a microwave? There's no benefit to anyone and the only point, as the assailant affirmed, was to hurt the animal and to scare/terrorise his girlfriend.

So in that respect, I would throw the book at him. His intent was very clear - to inflict unjust pain and harm on an animal for the purpose of intimidation. He deserves all that the law can administer.
