I did a search on the ATS website and found nothing. If this post is in the wrong board please feel free to move. Dident know where to put it.

The American dollar is in bad need of a makeover. Thanks to the Dollar ReDe$ign Project, we may now have some options. Organized by creative strategy consultant Richard Smith, the Dollar ReDe$ign Project is soliciting ideas for the dollar bill of the future. "Our great 'rival', the Euro, looks so spanky in comparison it seems the only clear way to revive this global recession is to rebrand and redesign," the project notes on its website.

How does puting Obama on any money help the recession!!

I knew someone would complain about Obama. Highly predictable behavior.

It's not like the actual design is going to come about. I find the first design to be crap anyway.

Now it remains to be seen what value they will have
Pretty colors, though.

My lady friend showed me this earlier and I was going to post it on ATS but never got around to it. I don't mind the idea of the designs with obama, the teepee and other stuff BUT I don't know if the one should just have obama. I mean...put a bunch of super iconic presidents on it. Washington, maybe JFK, obama could be one, maybe lincoln, I don't know. I suck at remembering American Presidents, but you get the idea.

Let's stay on topic. What would you do about a currency redesign?

I think they could do away with paper and just use coins.

i agree, real golden coins would be very nice.

Gold coins are nice but why not use plastic, cuts down on wear and tear if you lose coins you cant get them back. If you lose plastic you can replace it and if its worn out its cheaper to replace.

Some of the design concepts are quite interesting, if you look at the website which the article references – dollar design project. The more “modern” looking designs look to simple, but I wonder what type of security would be designed in to them. Are there proposals to redesign coinage too?

The problem with the US is that they don't have a set of people who could sit on the face of the notes - even a concept design with Obama on the face to show possibilities is causing grief to some people. Perhaps Mickey Mouse would be suitable, or Homer Simpson.

I love looking at different currency designs and have a collection of notes from the many countries I have passed through. I think the UK coinage and notes should act as a benchmark for other countries designs, but then I am bias.

UK notes
UK coins

Plastic wears out too quickly, is too easy destroy, and is too easy to forge. However "plastic" notes would be fine since paper is even weaker. In fact we use a sort of special plastic for our notes here in Australia.

Onto the topic at hand, those new designs look fairly crappy IMO. And I agree with the posters who say Obama isn't really "worthy" of having his face printed on your bills, he already got the Nobel Peace Prize for no reason.

Explanation: S&F!

Gold coins eh? and Monopoly coloured plastic money eh?

Australia is ahead of the curve then...

en.wikipedia.org...

Personal Disclosure: Yes I'm quite well aware they are not REAL gold coins... but you get the idea!

P.S. Obama on the face of the currency during his term would be a fail on so many levels.

What's with the neon colored peacock collage? And I can't believe these things are not riddled with masonic symbols; I find that odd.

I had a go myself at doing a special edition ATS dollar.

I would like to have spent more time on it but my girlfriend is hassling me about taking her to an antiques market

I frankly think there are bigger fish to fry.

New colors and designs to boost the economy is like painting a house to get rid of termites and rot...

Further, if the the president and powers in charge are smart, they will leave the design alone. it looks way to European...that leads to the idea that "they" are trying to "globalize" us or bring us into the NWO. It breeds mistrust, is a concrete symbol of that distrust, and ultimately will hurt, not help the economy.

The "Green Back" Dollar is too iconic, and frankly, to change it would be "unAmerican" in many people's eyes.

Dollars are worthless now-a-days.

Who says they are playing around? Perhaps the idiots who designed this crap really mean it.
We are NOT supposed to have living people on our $$$. There is good reason for it.
Just seeing Obamessiah on that 'potential' money makes me ill.

Let me give you a different take on this new coins, new bills business that has been going on for several years now.

CONSPIRACY!? What not another new one!!!!

Yep! Perhaps the underlaying concept is to get us used to our tried-and-true older money being replaced by newer designs for a definite reason.

I can understand having to keep ahead of (or catching up to) countries that counterfeit our big bills, but that necessary process has moved on to change the apperance of our coins also. First, it was our dollar coin that fizzled. Since then, they've tried again with two other new dollar coins, I believe, all flops. More recently, they have spent vast sums of needless money issuing new coins with more modern apperances. Why? Did we get up in arms demanding that?

Perhaps someone sees vastly different new paper money and coins in our future and are attempting to blunt the shock of acceptance by getting us used to change (pun intended). Hey, got change for a euro?

(This is written half in jest and half in concern.)

Here's what I don't understand...

Why on Earth would they put FDR on a bill?
In my opinion, he started alot of the problems we have today, just look him up...
I know these are just ideas right now but come on! Obama? On a bill already?
HE hasn't even finished his term yet!
Talk about inflating his already blown up ego!

I'm guessing they are putting him on a note because he was the first black president.
There can't be any other reasoning behind it.

I say, just make the switch to paperless already.
We all know it's coming, and you can't wear out credits.

Our currency is already worthless enough. We don't need to change it.

Seems to me that the people behind this are just trying to introduce us into the European Union way of things.
Almost like they want the North American Union to form without problems from the people.
So if you introduce currency that resembles another 'union' type...

I don't know.
It's ridiculous.
Just like everything else that's happening these days.
