Hey maybereal11, just an opinion but I think you have made some very interesting information in these posts. I must admit to not having heard of the 'know nothings' before, looks like I have some reading to do.
Thank you for the timely reminder.
Joe.
The Know-Nothing Party, also known as the American Party, was a prominent United States political party during the late 1840s and the early 1850s.
The American Party originated in 1849. Its members strongly opposed immigrants and followers of the Catholic Church. The majority of white Americans followed Protestant faiths.
Many of these people feared Catholics because members of this faith followed the teachings of the Pope. The Know-Nothings feared that the Catholics were more loyal to the Pope than to the United States.
More radical members of the Know-Nothing Party believed that the Catholics intended to take over the United States of America. The Catholics would then place the nation under the Pope's rule. The Know-Nothing Party intended to prevent Catholics and immigrants from being elected to political offices. Its members also hoped to deny these people jobs in the private sector, arguing that the nation's business owners needed to employ true Americans.

You appear to assume that you are smarter than everyone else (in common with many left wing zealots) and appear to be asserting that you have the right to control what information ‘lazy minded’ people should be exposed to.

How about respecting the secular rights of the ordinary non Muslim who doesn't want to see a religious movement grow in the USA

Which is exactly why this fear mongering is accomplishing nothing. Apart from increasing general racism against a whole people just because a tiny minority are extremists.
I agree with your aims. We need to preserve freedoms and liberties. I however differ from you in believing the best way to do that is to not tolerate the intolerant Religious-Political movement we call Islam.

Perhaps the constitution needs ammended. The Sienna poll would suggest that it does.

If the majority of the American people wished the constitution to be amended it would be unconstitutional to block an amendment.

Rights need to be balanced. Also, people have rights taken away by the state every day. Drink driving - lose your license.
No one has an absolute right to a right. What a simplistic argument. I really have lost a lot of respect for your position now.

Israel "aided Hamas directly -- the Israelis wanted to use it as a counterbalance to the PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organization)," said Tony Cordesman, Middle East analyst for the Center for Strategic Studies.
Israel's support for Hamas "was a direct attempt to divide and dilute support for a strong, secular PLO by using a competing religious alternative," said a former senior CIA official.

The son of a leading Hamas figure served for over a decade as the Shin Bet security service's most valuable source in the militant organization's leadership, Haaretz has learned.

Begin and his successor, Yitzhak Shamir, launched an effort to undercut the PLO, creating the so-called Village Leagues, composed of local councils of handpicked Palestinians who were willing to collaborate with Israel – and, in return, were put on the Israeli payroll. Sheik Yassin and his followers soon became a force within the Village Leagues. This tactical alliance between Yassin and the Israelis was based on a shared antipathy to the militantly secular and leftist PLO: the Israelis allowed Yassin’s group to publish a newspaper and set up an extensive network of charitable organizations, which collected funds not only from the Israelis but also from Arab states opposed to Arafat.
