NASA Test Plane Circling Houston for Hours Tonight

This generated a bit of a commotion in Houston the last few days. As late as today,the local news channels have run stories about "terrified" or "concerned" citizens that witnessed it. The only press release is the original article.

HOUSTON—Many citizens were concerned Saturday after seeing a large plane circling the city, but officials said there was no reason to be. Officials at Ellington Field and Bush Intercontinental Airport confirmed it was a NASA test plane. Texas City Emergency Management said the plane, which was flying at 50,000 feet, is used to do earth surveys, test maneuvers and take air samplings. They said the tests run frequently.

KHOU (CBS) tried to contact NASA to find out more, other than "atmospheric test". NASA has failed to call back so far. So there is some veil of secrecy.

It was a bit unsettling watching it not knowing what was going on. After ruling out a hijacking or enemy bomber you just kind of shrug your shoulders and hope nothing happens.

What's ironic about this pic is the cloud pattern in the loop. Anyone else notice it?
