I am a Christian myself but not religious simply because I could not handle the vast numbers of self-righteous and judgemental "leaders".

If he was ignored he wouldn't get the attention he's looking for but people have sensationalised the matter and now he's won.

it is difficult to ignore dozens of people at the funeral and at the burial of people, during a time of reverence for a life and to say goodbye when dozens of people are yelling profanities and saying how much god hated them and they should be dead. they are louder than the priest reading from the book, they are louder than the cries of a widow, they are louder than the attendees. even the 5 year old children holding up signs hate your dead relative.

I come from a large Irish-American family. In my world if somebody in my family - specifically male, happens to commit a grievous social or familial error, it is not uncommon for a few of the cousins to show up and deliver a small enlightenment upon that individual.

Call it an intervention. Call it therapy. Call it toting an anterior whooping. Call it tough love. Call it anything you want and judge the behavior if you wish. But the truth is that, in my family, at least, things like wife abuse, child abuse, alcoholism, gambling addiction, drug abuse, or any destructive or disrespectful behaviors in general do not often happen and are quickly resolved when they do.

I don't want Mr. Phelps or anyone in his family to suffer or to be hurt or maimed. I just think that a bit of tough love would benefit this gentleman a whole lot.

If he was a member of my family he certainly wouldn't be pulling these stunts!

Yeah, I hope old Fred doesn’t face a tortured death from some fanatical Muslims. He did stand up and ask for it though! Good lord what an IDIOT!

No. The root cause of the problem is that Fred Phelps is a shameless self promoter who is taking advantage of a difficult situation in order to garner publicity, and thus profit for himself.

Perhaps you should think about your choice of kool-aid...here's an interesting editorial from the Toronto Star about the cherry picking of the Koran to support anti-muslim sentiment. I would add that any such cherry picking of the Bible would give you equal results.
