LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- Teen actress Mary-Kate Olsen, who with her twin sister Ashley has grown into an American pop icon and fashion brand, has entered a program for treatment of an eating disorder reported to be anorexia.




A person familiar with the situation told Reuters that Olsen was suffering from an eating disorder. Olsen entered a facility during the past week or 10 days and was expected to remain in treatment for about a month, the person said.

Speculation about Olsen's rail-thin figure has been the subject of tabloids, gossip columns and the Internet for weeks. The actress herself poked fun at the issue during the twins' recent appearance on "Saturday Night Live," shouting to an extra playing herself, "You're too skinny! Eat a sandwich!"


I was thinking, what would be the first "slip up" of this "dynamic duo"... I honestly though it would be Booze or Money problems....

I don't envy people like this at all.

Think of it this way, from the day these girls started on their TV show "Full House" when they were what... 6 months old or so?... they have not been able to go out and see a movie or buy a candy without someone taking a picture or talking about them, or crowding around them etc.

If I lived in a fishbowl like that an eating disorder would be the least of my problems.

There have been rumours of this Olsen twin's eating disorder before.

Sometimes I wonder if anorexia nervosa has become a modern phenomenon that could be linked to the popular Barbie doll culture. Haven't found anything on this myself, just a thought.

The twinco machine of MK & A O have long been operating under the conscious decision to market Mary Kate as "the crazy one".

They even participated in an SNL skit hyping the perception. Never mind looking at the two "identical" twins one is reminded more of a before and after rehab picture than actual twins, or some med school display of a healthy human body versus it's skeletal support structure.

All this being said, MK's "problem" and publicized rehab merely ensures her place among teen girls and middle aged men as the popular one, and the controversial "draw" that sells the magazines and movies.

Where will it all end? Death or Internet porn. There is no escape.

Try to catch the SNL repeat this summer. Compared to her sister she's frightning. There's one skit where she shows her legs, and you'd think they'd break in the wind. But for the most part they keep her pretty covered to hide it. Can't hide that mouth though as it draws further and further back around her skull. I say bulemia, but that's just me.

Is that the same thing that got the Carpenter girl?

Everytime I hear bulemia I think about that one Aqua teen episode..

I saw the SNL they were on. I thought they both looked bad.

My daughter is 12 years old and idolized them. I keep a close eye on her though and am very involved in her life and what she's doing...

You know, I've always wonder if the Olsen twins were quadroons or even half black (although doubtful). They look like they're in pain, deep soul pain or something. Then need to move to a different country and start over again.

Also, you can tell MK had plastic surgery:

Compare the profile of her nose with her twin. Notice the dip, above the nostril area. She had her nose "touched up," with the dip making it more attractive. The also flattened the upper part. Her sister has more of an ethnic hawk like nose, like arabic or something.

From looking at her father I might be reading into this quadroon thing to much, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Also, I guess that's their older sister, but look at the woman in the extreme right. Then look at MK. Even her lips are shriveled. Funny how her mom overcompensates with a massive collegan injection (can she still talk?). Their older sister looks so much more normal. Tis a shame.

i just saw a magazine in the supermarket, appereantly they are not anoraxic. IT'S DRUGS!!!! not sure about ashley, but mary kate is definitly on crack. i havn't read the full story, but the clips here and there indicate they are blowing their health away with crack
