Does this mean that ATS has low self esteem?

Sorry, I just couldn't resist, especially after SO made such a big deal of ATS now being on Facebook.

This study says that people who frequent Facebook are shallow narcissists who love looking at themselves in the mirror.

Facebook users 'are insecure, narcissistic and have low self-esteem'

Using Facebook is the online equivalent of staring at yourself in the mirror, according to a study.

Those who spent more time updating their profile on the social networking site were more likely to be narcissists, said researchers.

Facebook provides an ideal setting for narcissists to monitor their appearance and how many ‘friends’ they have, the study said, as it allows them to thrive on ‘shallow’ relationships while avoiding genuine warmth and empathy.

Makes me glad I don't waste my time on that site.

So, what do you think folks, does ATS being on Facebook make it a shallow narcissist?

BTW, you can get access to the study here but, they make you register and pay to look at it.

I don't think it does. I tend to think of Facebook as "small talk", whereas ATS is more like a "conversation"......
I'm on Facebook and trust me you're not missing anything

I refuse to answer your question due to the fact that I am right now too busy looking at my facebook page located in my signature.

I hope other shallow people see this post and build a hollow relationship with me there.

Lastly...can you blame ATS for looking in the mirror endlessly!?

LOOK HOW HOT IT LOOKS NOW!!!

Hubba hubba...wink wink ATS....you gorgeous beast you, growl.

Are you kidding? You really believe this study?

I may be a "wacko liberal" but I sure as hell don't fall for things as easily as you seem to.

i would seriously question that study lol. everyone i know is on facebook. not one single person in my life is insecure or narcissistic. not one. hahaha so no, i definitely do not think that being on FB makes ATS that way either.

Are YOU kidding?

The only thing wrong with that study is the fact that they had to conduct a study in the 1st place to determine what was perfectly obvious to everyone else on the face of the planet.

Can you say "Hello Captain Obvious"?

That study was a no brainer, she should have gotten an F on her thesis for wasting research time on something that was already common knowledge.

The study is flawed and in my gorgeous opinion it does not apply to us ATSers.

Doubly so for masked ATSers...who also look damn dashing.

I just updated my Facebook status to the following:

Hefficide I just read a study that says people who update their Facebook status are narcissistic. My personal opinion is that the people behind this study are just jealous of my staggeringly good looks.

Communication is the heart of humanity.

Narcissism is reflected in the types of updates/posts and even then is fallacious as a negative attribute.

Does one think that the global elite don't hobnob at their functions all the time?

Was the American Media frantic over Chelsea Clinton's Wedding because she is worth our attention or because they spent millions on it?

Point of fact...we all need attention, it's just some people can afford it and can communicate within accepted spectrums.

Instead of harping on communication it is perhaps a more productive act to detail the motivations for communication...

A couple of things come to mind. One is a horseface corporate woman on FOX who used the show to detail how to promote 'facetime' with your superior.

Another is a guy who used to have this sentence attached to his avatar, that of a rugged marlboro type face:

"I can see you in my bed..."

There are no limits to vanity, or it's twin: feelings of low self-esteem. It practically fuels the economy.

It's so great that individuals can instantly and accurately diagnose psychological issues in groups that encompass millions of individuals based on nothing but opinion.

By the way, it's obviously untrue.

No insecurities here.

We're awesome and tinfoil rocks.

Oh brother.

I have a facebook account. I update it because I can no longer speak much at all and I have family at great distance who want updates on my condition. I can also 'speak' to them instantly back and forth on the message system they have. It's the easiest way to do so since my voicebox is all but shot.

My elderly mother is on facebook because she can't visit her children and grandchildren who live far away. She gets updates on what they are doing and she gets to see pictures of them this way.

My brother is in the airforce and his wife has leukemia. They have a facebook account to update people on his wife's condition and to post pictures of their kids for all their family members to see and to hear about what the kids are doing.

Sorry .. but the study you quoted is flawed. Sure some are probably narcissists ... but many more are just regular folks.

Too right.

Things are far more complicated than usual useless runaway comments by science that says we all fit into groups.
