Two U.S. troops killed as Iraqi opens fire at base

Two U.S. service members were killed and nine others were wounded when a Kurdish Iraqi soldier sprayed them with gunfire at an Iraqi army commando base north of Baghdad on Tuesday afternoon, Iraqi and U.S. military officials said.

The two Americans, whose names were being withheld until relatives are notified, were the first U.S. troops to be killed in Iraq since the Obama administration declared combat operations there officially over last week. The incident underscored the dangers facing the nearly 50,000 U.S. troops still in the country.

Obama will have to face reality the combat, attacks etc/ have hardly stopped. I think he may have jumped the gun a bit by stating operations are over like Bush who claimed victory on Iraq war. I believe Al Qaeda and other groups in Iraq are just bidding their time and waiting for USA to remove troops before another round of deadly clashes and attacks start. Seems like a failure in Iraq by coalition forces.

The guy who shot dead these soldiers was member of Iraqi Army's Special Forces unit. Maybe more such people have managed to infiltrate Iraqi Army...we will know soon.
