Calgary police confirmed Tuesday charges are pending against a 16-year-old male in what they are calling a sexual assault against a 12-year-old girl in broad daylight in a school field adjacent to Clarence Sansom Junior High in front of a group of about eight other youths Monday afternoon.

When I read these things, I am at a loss.... I mean come on! a 16 yr old assaulting a 12yr old in the school yard. has our society gotten that sexualized that kids will watch and maybe even take pics and video to remember it by?

NOBODY tried to stop it!..... I want to barf!

There are no words to describe the amount of ass whooping those kids deserve for putting that little girl through that

If it were my daughter I would seriously consider some vigilante justice.

He should be tried as an adult.

And charge those who stood by and watched as accessories.

yes ... he should be tried as an adult ...

but really, the parents should be more informed before letting the kid use the computer ... to meet someone you met over the internet is tough when you are 12 years old

I suppose none of us should be surprised that society is going that way. I do not condone this behaviour in any way and hope that the 16 y.o. gets the punishment that would correct this kind of behaviour but what will?

We have to look at where this type of behaviour grows out of; is it from the family upbringing, a lack of controls in negative behaviour. The crowd that watch is also tragic as these are our children. We need to reinforce what is right and wrong behaviour and this, I am afraid, is what we are not doing not the media, not school, nor the families. Yes, there are families who do care so I don't paint all with the same brush. It certainly is tragic and sickening.

This is not society...this is a incident at a school thousands of miles away from most people here that was disturbing enough to make international news...

if society truely went that way, it would be a commonplace local news article in all hometowns...

the problem with global news is that the odd thing happening half a world away suddenly is blasted into your home, the human brain suddenly constructs it to be something directly effecting your inner circle...its called shock news.

Yep, someone far away did something bad...welcome to existance.

16 year old boys have been doing this to 12 year old girls since the beginning of time. Why the outrage now?

I think there's always been sick and disgusting behaviour like this. It may be getting worse with the internet and the access to porn that youngster have.

What really sickens me further is the apathy that the general public have nowadays. There was a case somewhere ( I think the US but I may be wrong) where some youths didn't stop a rape, but filmed it on their phones instead.

What do our children and young adults have for moral compasses?

i don't pretend to know the solution to these problems, but I do fear for humanity.

People are stabbed to death in NYC and adults don't do anything to help even though they hear/see it happening.

Kids aren't going to act any different. They see a rape happening, they are going to gawk just like adults do.

Unfortunately, most people are cowards, heroes are rare.

Hey saturn
Calgary is a Major city centre in Canada and one of the fastest growing cities in the country.

While I respect your view that you feel it's far away from reality but these "events" are slowing creeping into our society.. I dare blame it on media/TV and some of our "music idols" that sing/show/advertise in a way that desensitizes our youth to sexual issues.

half dressed 12 year old girls selling jeans . to miley cyrus trying to be Madonna. Rappers yelling about booty call and violating anything that moves! combined with this "you tube" mindset where it needs to be posted online.

yes the parents of a 12 yr old need to know what she's doing online but this will never excuse this behavior and I am appalled that it happened in my country!

If this had happened 100 years ago, the 16 year old boy would have been strung up on a tree in the center of town.

No one would have not considered this justice.

Actually, it is a million miles away from me...even if it was in my hometown where this happened. the point I was making was this is a single incident...crimes have happened before, they will happen again, but this does not mean everywhere you look, people are gang raping 12 year olds as the norm and the blasted durned internet needs to be controlled.

As far as the "the kids are out of control" argument...back in my day we had only perfect respect and never was a crime, etc...well, ya..ancient greek philosophers are on record of how the new generation coming up were rebellious and naughty...out of control.

Something fun to watch when you feel the world is spinning out of control...sort of either reassures you that they are, or puts things into perspective

WOW! Wow! Wow!
I love it and that video put a huge smile on my face! Saturn, I thank you!
I agree that this is an isolated event . I guess I'm just thinking too hard about it. I am not saying the world is going to hell but as a parent I feel that it's a must that we talk to our children and help them understand that not all is not as it seems sometimes and to help them make the right decisions......................................... just because they're "famous" doesn't make them a role model

Update from today's news

www.montrealgazette.com...

This looks like it was consensual sex, however a 12 yr cannot do that and the young man will be charged.... there was booze involved and this kids thought is all fun and games

I think the filming part turns my stomach the most

So a guy got drunk and had consensual sex with a girl that was a couple years younger than him? EVERYBODY FREAK OUT NOW! THIS IS THE STORY OF THE YEAR!

Seriously Calgary must be a boring place if this is the best they could come up with.

havenvideo... I'd be willing to bet you don't have a 12 yr girl at home...... then again maybe you do? and you think those actions ( On both of their parts) are fine in today's world?

The point you're forgetting is that there were people watching and filming the event so it could be "imortalized" on social networking sites and passed among friends like trading cards.

Were there cameras there when you had your 1st 12 yr old?...... I'll bet not on both parts!
