Holy Crap

Hope all the guys down there are ok? SA & NZ are rugby foes, but we (South Africans) love the All Blacks and all the Kiwis. Take care guys, we LOVE You! You're awesome people!

Edit to add: I have many SA friends in NZ, I hope they are all ok.

A friend of mine just reported the beach stinking of something similar to sulphur. Any ideas as to why this may be?

Hmm could be a volcano being disturbed making the smell, Or i think there is some relevance to Water underneath the dirt,
I not clued up on that but have heard it said after other big quakes,

Gas leak? Methane release from an underwater repository?

Google answers are vague as to cause but seem to indicate that a sulfer smell after an earthquake is not uncommon.

That's the best I could come up with on the fly.

I dunno why I find that absolutely terrifying but...

Anyway, I'm waiting to hear from one of my best friends and her family who live in Christchurch...

Prayers for everyone there...

Some of those look nasty-I think its a blessing that this quake came when most folks were asleep-many would have been hurt if this had happened in the day time, when people are out on the streets.

Thank God it was at night.
