Do you really think that the world's governments want cures for major diseases to be discovered?

A friend of mine called me today. He was really upset because he went to get his meds renewed and was told that it will cost him double what he's used to paying. His group insurance plan has not changed, and he was told that the pharmacist must have increased the cost of the meds he was taking.

Now here's the situation, if he ends up paying for those meds at that price continuously, he'll go bankrupt because he's already in financial difficulty. Yet if he stops taking the meds, it won't help his health.

I find this very unethical on behalf of the pharmaceutical industry to not even offer generic drugs for his condition. Considering the billions in revenue that pharmaceutical companies make off of people like my friend, it leaves me to conclude that governments don't want cures to be found for major illnesses because anyone with a conscience in power would never allow this type of unethical behaviour illustrated by pharmaceutical companies to persist.

Unfortunately, there is little to no money in a cure.
It's all about the research.

Only the wealthy can afford to live, once they get sick.

Of course they dont want cures for diseases, they would lose billions of dollars in profits. I mean the only diseases that were cured were polio and smallpox. A little rediculous considering how far weve come in other areas of medicine over the years. We can do surgery from across the country with a robot for christs sake!

They only want to treat the symptoms of the diseases, while creating side effects that sometimes require more prescriptions. Its all a big money game and has nothing to do with really helping people. Just another example of humanity being held back by the greedy actions of some of the wealthiest people in the world.

I agree that corporations would go bankrupt, pharmaceuticals that is. But there are so many other industries that would still thrive. But I can never accept anyone or any corporation profiting by keeping people sick.
