I am watching the POTUS speech about the drawdown in the middle east, and just have a question.

I noticed that the POTUS flag over Mr. Obamas left shoulder appears to be on a BLACK background. And I was wondering if it is because the color on my TV is a little off, or is it actually on a black background?

If it is on a black background, when was it changed?

Everything that I can find online about the POTUS flag, showes it on a blue background, similar in hue to the background of the USAF flag.

I only think that it is black because the field behind the stars on the US flag appears blue, as it should, that is why I don't think it is the color ballance on my TV. Also the shirt/ jacket that Michelle was wearing in the pic to his far left (wood frame) shows blue also.

Did anyone else catch this?

I am not saying that there is any deep dark motive if it is black, just curious.

i was just about to post a link to the trascript.
i'll just do it here.

Good evening. Tonight, I’d like to talk to you about the end of our combat mission in Iraq, the ongoing security challenges we face, and the need to rebuild our nation here at home. I know this historic moment comes at a time of great uncertainty for many Americans. We have now been through nearly a decade of war. We have endured a long and painful recession. And sometimes in the midst of these storms, the future that we are trying to build for our nation – a future of lasting peace and long-term prosperity may seem beyond our reach.

actually, it did. If you click the link you can see the POTUS flag in the background, and it does indeed look black! Very odd, but also very noticable compared to the blue on the American Flag to the left.

looks dark blue to me on my laptop and darker blue/black on my desktop tower.

I think it all depends on your monitor

Maners, 12GP, maners.

I do not have any dark motive with this post, I am just curious. Since I searched and couldn't find any posts on this topic (not surprising since it is only his 2nd speach from the Oval Office) I was just wondering if anyone, who followed him closer than I, knew anything about a change in the POTUS flag and might be willing to share.

Exactly what dark motive do you think I have for posting this?

Thanks for the post Slasher. It just seemed weird to me and my wife.

Thanks Slayer, we thought that too, just seemed wierd that the other things that were supposed to be close in hue to the flag, appeared normal.

Just did a quick google pic for the flag. Its kinda navy in color.

Op, your right to be watching though. Remember the GOP logo? It didnt always have an inverted star.

Good watching out though!

It looks quite dark blue to me on the CNN page about the speech.

www.cnn.com...

It still looks more dark blue than black at Fox News, but looks quite black at MSNBC. Must be based on camera quality, editing, resolution, etc. of the different networks, but I don't think it's any conspiracy or anything.

When you play the CNN video, the flag still looks black though, like in the picture. How is this possible? The video quality somehow isn't that good either, which I find surprising because, I mean, it's CNN, right?

But maybe I'm just looking into it too much, I don't know, but I think something is off.

well Navy blue often looks back when photographed
and to my eyes it looks to be the same color as the background of the starfield on the National flag next to it

Here is a video of a Bush speech with a black flag

The flags are definitively black. Its not because of crappy video, cameras or TVs because the other colors are not off by that much.

I wouldn't rule out it being the cameras. Some colors often look different on camera than in real life. Just take a picture of a bright flower to see how different it can look on camera as opposed to real life.

I mean, look at this picture of a rose I took many years ago. It definitely didn't look so..glowy..in real life, and I didn't manipulate the photo in any way.

Brightened in adobe it looks navy blue to me. If it were black wouldn't it be gray when lightened?

Interesting.

Probably just a color contrast thing...

BUT, I went back a bit, and the flag seems to "change" between Truman, and Eisenhower. At least the few color pics I looked at.

By the time you get to FDR, I was finding B&W, might be harder to find color, the farther back you go. I didn't try that hard though.

Maybe nothing?

Maybe not.
