Louis XVII, the Lost Crown Prince of France

During the first decades of the 19th century stories circulated in monarchistic circles in which Louis XVII was still alive. Some argued that the son of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, who both lost their head under the guillotine of the Revolution, had found refuge in the United States. Many of those who desired to become King pretended they were the missing "dauphin". They found willing adherents amidst the various cults that had devoted themselves to the restoration of the Bourbon dynasty.

I don't know why, but this makes me laugh. This really makes me laugh, because all of these stories about the royals dying, only for us later to be like, "Well, on second thought, maybe they did get away." And you know what it makes me think, "Well, on second thought, maybe I shouldn't believe HIS-tory"

Yeah, good post, you're probably onto something. I think the royals bailed the 'old world' and sailed to the 'new' world so that we may, I mean, they may, establish Rome here.
