Its called a Trapdoor Spider.

I used to have a minefield of them in the backyard at an old place I rented a few years back. I remember even feeding the odd grasshopper to them in my wild youth years....

i attended an elementary school that had these things all over the playground, never had a problem but i was very nervous with every step

and to think i had almost forgoten that memory

Do trapdoor spiders every try to grab human feet?
Obviously unless it was a huge spider, it wouldnt be able to do much, haha.
Just wondering if they every attempt to grab a human foot thinking its a insect/small animal walking by.

No, as far as I know the Trapdoors lay out a fine web of silk outside the hole and sit inside feeling for vibrations. Obviously a human foot is going to cause a whole lot more vibration than a bug so the spider can tell the difference without even poking his head out.

It really amazes me the things people didn't learn about in school.
wow..
I see so much stuff posted on this web site that one would seem to believe is common sense or knowledge.
And yet I am re-suprised often.
