Italian City (Fortress) in Mexico for the End of the World

It seems a group of Italians have been building a mini-city at the Yucatan peninsula to wait for 2012, for when the tough times come. They bought 816 hectares of forest and started building 22 big houses with 24 rooms each, prepared for fires, floods and climatic changes. The walls are 60cm thick and could last forever. They have areas for agriculture, a lake, solar panels, etc.

All the area is enclosed with walls and security 24-7 so the media (or any intruders) can’t get inside, so they managed to fly over it with a helicopter. (Photo on the source). The place is amazing!

The area of Xul was “selected” because in ancient Maya means “the end”, so they’ll just wait there for the end of times.

I’ve been thinking of doing the same thing with my brothers (without the luxuries) somewhere in the Andes, but the Italians have been busy since two years ago. I bet they’re right on schedule. Its really amazing how they kept it almost secret and away from the media!

I just finished preparing my BOB, but…I have nowhere to go when SHTF! =(

very cool find...wish i spoke better spanish !!...i found some groups "building " neear me here in the hills of east tennesse. not too pricey to get in with them, but dont know them well enough to trust em !!

I really need to cash in on it before its over...maybe some packages for survival sold online...bunch of spam, some knives, a water purifier, a survivalist book...wrap it all up and sell for 1000 bucks a pop.

I was just thinking that once 2012 passes and nothing happens, at least these guys can try to make their money back by marketing their fortress as an isolated luxury resort.

It is my deepest wish that these guys are completely insane, instead of right.

It doesn't look like a fort to me unless it has invisible fortifications.

Of interest is that the buildings are not actually a fort to fend off people. The place is being built by a religious group.

No matter how nutty an idea someone can dream up you can always find someone to believe on it and more interesting is you can get someone to act on it.

Won't these folks be surprised when nothing happens in 2012. They have enough money and sweat invested in this that they will b e the first to come up with a new date.
