Beirut wants Iran to equip Lebanon Army

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman has officially asked Iran to equip and modernize the Lebanese Army, given the problems Beirut is facing.

Sleiman has asked Iranian officials to consider selling advanced military equipment to the Lebanese Army, reported IRNA.

The Lebanese president has reiterated that the modernization should take place while keeping in mind Beirut's strategic needs as well as its budget limitations.

This follows recent deadly confrontation between Lebanon & Israel

Hezbollah has voiced support for the Lebanese president's decision to ask Iran for help in equipping the country's army, saying Beirut must acquire weapons from friendly countries.

The Lebanese resistance movement's Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah urged the Lebanese Cabinet on Tuesday to ask Iran and Arab states to provide equipment for Lebanon's army, stressing that "Hezbollah will work hard through his friendship with Iran to equip the Lebanese Army."

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman has officially asked Iran to equip and modernize the Lebanese Army.

Nasrallah said Beirut should seek an alternative source for its military needs, stressing that "Lebanon must ask for help from countries that are willing to sell arms to Beirut without any conditions."

His comments came as the US Congress decided to block its $100 million military aid shortly after a deadly border clash between Lebanese and Israeli soldiers.

Nasrallah asked Beirut to act swiftly to acquire weapons rather than discuss a long-term plan to equip the army.

Israel is perhaps aided by the american empire
but Lebanon is aided by Iran which is aided by China and Russia and NK
just Russia equipment alone can be very desastrous in a war

True but Russian and CHinese equipment is not on Par with American Made Equipment. Russia and China do not give there best equipment out they sell them there second teir crap. Unlike America who does seel Israel some First Tier stuff.

Yes but Lebanon hasn't got access to the latest US kit nor could they afford it and I doubt the yanks give it to anybody other than Israel for free, I see this as a positive move and could pave the way for a Hizbullah step back from the front line if the population have faith in the Lebanese armed forces.

It's just part of the all pervasive air of hate directed against Iran and Muslims in general, it must be maintained so that we don't get soft about them getting blown to bits if Israel or the USA bomb them.

The OP's article says that Iran's defense industry is capable of arming fifty countries, impressive!

I think it is likely that Lebanon is making this overt appeal to Iran now because Israel's military credibility has suffered. The IDF failed to capitalize on its opportunity to destroy the Bushehr power plant, in spite of Israel's repeated criticisms and threats aimed at Iranian atoms.

I think that the most likely cause of this failure on the part of militant, extreme zionists is the opposition of moderate Israelis, who are often forgotten and ignored by the world and Israeli propaganda. I'd wager that the flotilla attack struck many moderates 'in the know' as something that damages Israel's image and justifies anti-zionist sentiment around the world; the repeated threats by top officials towards Iran, Lebanon etc would have contributed to this as well. Iran's defence minister has said his country is prepared to sell weapons to Lebanon should it ask for help to equip its military.

General Ahmad Vahidi on Wednesday said Lebanon "is our friend" and that Iran is ready to offer military aid.

"If there is a demand in this respect, we are ready to help that country and conduct weapons transactions with it," he was quoted as saying by the official Irna news agency.

I also think the same but used WW3 as this seems to be at the table. In all honesty many feel like us and I personally would rather a solar flare destroy all grids making everyone equal.

I am not a big guy... 5'7" ... Now if a 4' guy picked a fight with me... Should I walk away because of his size? .... what if this guy keeps kicking me in my shins?....
