The Enemy! Why do you say that?

I must confess I have stopped looking at the news because I am just tired of all the negativity. I have many things in life that concern me. The latest political talking point isn't one of them. As such, I'm probably not as well informed as some of you (or perhaps I am better informed, who knows?).

I've been around here for ages. The overarching theme tends to be "The Left-Right Paradigm is false". Well, I think you are all lying to yourselves. Why? Because invariably I will open a political thread and see "You liberals" or "You Conservatives".
Then there is a long rant about how "The Enemy" is destroying the country. There are people being called commies, socialists, marxists, facists, libtards, neo-facists...etc. I could sit here for 30 minutes typing out every insult used to describe people of a different political persuasion. I've been called a whore (among other things) for not towing the "political line" as it were.

I have to wonder: What does any of this arguing do for anyone? I get the ego trip. You can stand up and say you won. Good for you, I'm not sure what you won though. You didn't get anything really. It's not like we are really solving any problems. We are just at each others throats most days. Instead of seeing human beings who have a different opinion we feel the need to see them as our enemies.

Why are these people who you do not agree with your enemies? Why is some person on the internet you have never met your enemy?

They need to be repeatedly told that they are stupid and are holding back the country's progression.

It's no really so much arguing as rather testosterone filled conversation about their political views, which is a good thing in theory, but neither side will actually learn from the other, so

Stupid people on any side need to be told they are stupid and be outed.
