OVER THE PACIFIC (AP) — A Gulfstream passenger jet at the center of a U.S.-Russian military exercise was about to cross the International Dateline on Tuesday for the second time in three days, and some of the seven passengers seemed dulled by the dash across the Pacific and back.

When I look back in the not so long ago past, pilots sitting in cockpits for 8 to 10 hours at a time, flight crews pouring over weapon load date: arming – disarming rockets and warheads, Russia and America have come a long way. Or have we? The threat of hijacked aircraft and passengers is an all too real scenario here in our little world. The terrorists have forced the Eagle and Bear to become allies, for now. Remember the old saying, “ The enemy of my enemy, is my friend.” Before POTUS Reagan, these exercises to stop human shielded missiles would have never been conceptualized, but are now in practice. The old adage, when the world gives you lemons, make lemonade, works here. Putan, IMHO, can never be trusted, but at least we have an opportunity to see each other in the light of cooperation, and not the darkness of deceptive destruction.
Long live peace.
