Two sins doesn't make it right, but dam thats funny. I vote we have a Klan office on the other side, along with a Pork butcher across the street.

Let the Mob take care of them. Soon the Mob will be watching over the streets again and taking care of their people.

I find this really funny. A pork shop on the other side would make this all perfect.
That's if the mosque even gets built. Sorry, but I'm against it.

Will this bar need a permit ?

Or can you open a bar just about anywhere ?

My take on the mosque is that they have every right to build it, but it is pretty disrespectful to the families to build it at that particular location...which is not a residential area.

Actually, over 10,000 people lived in the neighborhood of Tribeca (which is less than 1/2 square mile) according to the 2000 census. And almost 300,000 lived in Manhattan below 14th Street.

That block is mostly commercial, but the neighborhood is mixed-use.

they already have a rather large mosque in Harlem, so it's not like this is going to be the first mosque on Manhattan island. So sure, build it at that location...in the name of tolerance...and we'll open a gay bar and barbecue pit next door.

There are already quite a few mosques in Manhattan, but that's not the point.

The point is that this mosque congregation (which has been led by Imam Rauf for 27 years in the Tribeca neighborhood) needs a larger space than they currently have to worship in, and the Tribeca neighborhood needs a community center with all the benefits it will bring.

There are also at least two Christian churches and at least two Jewish synagogues within two blocks of the WTC site (not counting St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox, which was destroyed on 9/11 and is trying to rebuild near their old location). So clearly there is a community there that can support a diverse group of prayer spaces.

I have no problem with the plan to open a gay bar next door to the mosque (though I question the business model of a gay non-alcoholic bar catering to Muslims placed next to a mosque/community center, I just don't see that making a lot of money).

There's already a BBQ place right down the street, so that might be a difficult business proposal too, but if you can make it work then go for it.

"What a gay idea"

It will definitely fail.

He just wants attention.

Third line.

Although I don't see anything wrong with a religious institution being built anywhere, to include the vicinity around Ground Zero, I do find this amusing. However, I doubt it will affect the Mosque negatively in any way, shape or form. It may just make them pull together even stronger. Furthermore, I wonder if this gay bar will even garner business from gay people, being opened for nefarious reasons and all. I think we can give gay people a little more credit than being used as a tool. As the other poster said, it will probably just be "in the closet" neo-conservatives and/or religious righters.

Anyway, this is pretty funny and made me laugh a little.

I think we need a witchcraft shop beside them, that allows dogs.

I mean, how does it feel to antagonize people? Have a dose of it yourself.

Would you build a gun store across the street from Columbine?

I would, considering I don't blame guns for Columbine. Just like I don't blame Islam for 9/11.

I know, *SNIP* nuts huh?

The question isn't really about what the mosque goers will think, but the reaction of Muslims all over. No doubt the extremist Muslims would be pretty angry I'd say.

Let's wait and see.

Firstly I think this is all for attention seeking, I mean common, this guy goes on TV and makes himself look like an A$$ every day for attention, this is nothing new.

Secondly if this goes ahead as planned, it would be interesting seeing the reaction of Muslims.

IT would also be interesting seeing the reaction of non-Muslims towards the reaction of Muslims.

Then the cycle begins

Wow, the way you describe it, now its kind of starting to sound like...the rest of New York.

Maybe things are finally getting back to "normal" in the NYC freakshow?

To make it even more hilarious, he should name the bar something like:
The Happy Infidel, Porky's Revenge, Cheeky & Sheiky.

I know that's wrong, but yet funny

hahahahaha... this is rich... I want the mosque to go in now just so this gay bar can be built along with any of the other aforementioned establishments. The only thing I don't like about it is that I didn't have the money to do it myself

You know, when you look at people's opinions on this mosque situation you kinda begin to understand why the world is the way it is today. Why build a mosque near where the world trade center once stood? How about as a peace offering? Islam is a religion of peace and America could learn from Islam. A mosque would signify peace and unity. This dude with the whole gay bar thing is openly disrespecting Islam and America's principle of religious freedom. This gay bar fiasco is basically instigating more hate fueled by ignorance. Because supposed Islamic terrorists were the main culprits in 911 doesnt mean downtown manhattan is an Islam free zone. What every muslim is a terrorist now? Cmon people wake up the PTB want to manipulate us into hating each other and distract us. Think about it first we have Islam( Arabs), then we have immigration (Mexicans/latinos) , then we have drug and urban crime in general(blacks and minorities in general), blue and white collar crime( white people and minorities in general); plz realize people are capitalizing on our bias'.

Turn about is fair play.

Building a Mosque near ground zero is obviously a ploy to provoke.

Building a gay bar next door to a Mosque is clearly a ploy to provoke.

Fair is fair... deal with it. Personally I find it all quite petty and pretty stupid. It does nothing but stir the pot.

edit to add: This really reminds me of a strip club that was located in Graham, N.C. that shared a parking lot with a church. The club was called Dockside Dolls lol. You could literally throw a rock from the door of the strip club and hit the church, it had to be a good throw and you needed a strong arm, but it was within reach lol.

PERFECT!

Why didn't I come up with that?

But wait, it also needs a lesbian biker club (equivalent to a Women's Rights Group), a NORML center and a Cartoonists Free Speech Association, and they all should have the right to serve alcohol.
